Veronica threw herself out of bed and rushed towards the bathroom, pushing past Rachel and almost face-planting the floor. She was glad that Monica was never late to work —unlike herself— otherwise, she would have killed her for all the water she was splashing onto the floor in her rush.

She stumbled out of the bathroom as she applied her lipstick with one hand and mascara with the other.

"Late again?" Rachel asked as she held out a cup of coffee to her best friend.

"So, so late," Veronica groaned as she took a gulp of the coffee before setting it down and rushing to change. She knew she was late but she still couldn't bring herself to just throw anything on and go with it; so that was another 15 minutes until she finally found an outfit she liked.

"Thank you!" Veronica sang as she rushed past Rachel, grabbing the piece of toast she held out for her. She'd been doing the whole responsible, independent thing for a while now but she still couldn't get the waking up early thing down. It'd be easier to count how many times she'd managed to show up to work early rather than late.

"Dammit!" She groaned when she realized she'd left her files in the apartment and rushed back up the stairs. Thankfully Rachel was already standing by the door, holding them out for her.

Veronica gave her a thankful smile, well as best as she could with the piece of toast shoved into her mouth so she could grab the files. With that, she ran down the stairs — she couldn't get to work on time even if her life depended on it but at least she could run in heels.

She dumped her files onto her desk before throwing herself down onto her chair with a huff. She threw her head back and closed her eyes for a moment before pushing herself off the chair and sifting through all the files on her desk.

Veronica smiled to herself when she could finally see her desk again, her files neatly stacked in piles. She'd finally finished cleaning up her desk, it had taken a lot longer than it should have but in her defense, she was doing it in between several meetings. She leaned her head against her arms with a tired smile before a loud ring startled her and almost had her tumbling to the floor.

"Hello, Veronica King's office," She answered the phone once she'd calmed down.

"Look at my little girl," Jame King's smile could be heard through the phone, "Never thought I'd see the day where you actually answered your office phone."

Veronica gave him a dry laugh. "Haha, very funny daddy."

"What? I was just about to tell you how proud I am. You're finally taking the job seriously."

"Yeah, even got here ten minutes early today," Veronica told him coolly. She really hoped he didn't have her secretary giving him updates because while she'd always been good at lying her way out of trouble as a teen, there were a few slip-ups. And it was not pretty when her father caught her in a lie.
