"Guys?" Ross called as he opened the door to the girls apartment, "There's somebody I'd like you to meet."

The friends gasped and smiled when they noticed the monkey perched on his shoulder. Veronica had always wanted a monkey when she was growing up but her father always told her she was too much of a monkey herself. In his defense, he'd caught her climbing up the lattice to her balcony one to many times after sneaking out with boys.

"W-wait," Monica's eyes widened as she pointed to the monkey in disdain, "What is that?"

"That would be Marcel. You wanna say hi?" Ross grinned as he took a step closer to his sister, who'd all but jumped away from him.

"No, no, I don't."

"Oh, he is precious! Where did you get him?" Rachel smiled as she waved at the monkey.

"My friend Bethel rescued him from some lab," Ross explained.

"That is so cruel!" Phoebe frowned, "Why? Why would a parent name their child Bethel?"

"I agree with you but I really don't think that was the worst part of what he just said," Veronica rolled her eyes.

"Hey, that monkey's got a Ross on its ass!" Chandler laughed as he walked into the apartment.

"Ross, is he gonna live with you, like, in your apartment?" Monica stutterd out as she eyes the monkey.

Veronica had a hard time trying not to laugh at how scared Monica was of the monkey. She wasn't trying very hard not to, to be completely honest.

"Yeah. I mean, it's been kinda quiet since Carol left, so..." Ross shrugged with a sheepish smile.

Monica scoffed. "Why don't you just get a roommate?"

"Nah, I dunno. I think you reach a certain age, having a roommate is kinda pathe-" Ross cut himself off when he noticed the glares he was getting from everyone in the room, "Sorry, that's, that's 'pathet', which is Sanskrit for 'really cool way to live'."

"Y'know what's really 'pathet'?" Veronica gave him a sickly sweet smile, her tone sharp, "Getting a monkey for a roommate because you can't find an actual human who wants that position."

"I'm doing all new material tonight. I have twelve new songs about my mother's suicide, and one about a snowman," Phoebe smiled brightly at her friends as she tuned her guitar.

The friends looked between each other silently as they tried to figure out how to possibly react to that. They all settled for silent smiles. Veronica still couldn't understand how Phoebe managed to brush off topics like that so casually.
