We start 10th grade today and i probably couldn't care less. Over this past summer i been going to football practice everyday and then doing 2 a days on the weekends. All summer its been a harsh competition between me and this kid Jonathan for the starting quarterback job. I can't lie he's got a pretty good arm but at the end of the last practice the coach named me the starter because he said i fit the system better then Jon did. I was actually shocked because Jonathan was a junior and i was a sophomore but coach said i picked the system up faster and my athletic ability opened up the playbook more. Man aint nothing changed between me and Skye we're still stuck like glue to one another. She's my shadow she's been at every single practice cheering me on being my little cheerleader and i fucking love it. After practice she ran an jumped in my arms hugging me and telling me how proud of me she is.
Today school starts and im laying in bed trying to get as much rest as possible before school and practice until i feel something or should i say someone jump on me.
Skye: Jackie!! Get up we gotta get ready for school!!
Me: Nah sunshine i think imma just chill in my room today.
Skye: Come on Jackie get up pweaseeeee for meee. *she says giving me puppy dog eyes an sticking her bottom lip out pouting.*
Me: Fuck i can't say no to those eyes im getting up.
Skye: yayyyy thank you Jackie.
I get up an throw on a white shirt black American eagle jeans and black jordan 1 high top shoes and a black leather jacket. As im putting my hair in a bun i feel somebody staring at me. I look over to see Skye standing in the doorway with a look that makes me glad looks can't kill because I'd be in a coffin right now if they could.
Me:What??
Skye: You know i love to do your hair for you.
Me: Fine bestie come here bestie
I hand her my hair tye an sit down she jumps up and down and runs up to me. Shes always loved messing with my hair an i can't lie i love when she plays with it. After she finishes with my hair we go downstairs to eat some breakfast before we go to school. On the drive there we were telling jokes and just messing around.
*Later in the day*
I was waiting outside skye's class to walk her to her 7th period before i went to football practice and as i was waiting on Skye Kelly the head cheerleader was talking to me alot an i was listening a little god she doesnt shut up. As skye walked up to us Kelly was gettin very touchy and it made my skin crawl but when Skye walked up i lit up. I hugged her and we jus walked away from Kelly mid rant.
As we were walking i could tell something was wrong with Skye and after we got to her classroom i finally asked
Me:Alright sunshine whats goin on with you??
Skye:Nothin Jackie im just tired.
Me: Skye Skye i know better then that what's really goin on??
Skye: Nothin you better go your gonna be late. *She says playing with my jacket sleeve*
Me:you want my jacket don't you??
I take my jacket off an hand it to her an she has the biggest smile on her face as she slips it on. It looks adorable because i hit a growth spurt over the summer an now stand at 6'3 so the jacket looks huge on her. I give her a big hug goin as far as too lift her up off the ground before i run off to practice.
Practice wasn't too bad it was a normal Thursday practice so we went no contact before the game tomorrow like normal. I was really excited because the team we play tomorrow loves to play man coverage so I'm gonna rip them to shreds. Me and the first team were running some routes when i heard the bell ring maybe 10 minutes later i saw skye come sit down in the bleachers watching me throw the ball. She was cheering me on and being all supportive like the best friend i know the whole time. The last rep we did was a hail mary attempt an i launched the ball 60 yards to the endzone and after it was caught i took my helmet off an winked at skye and she smiled back at me. I went over an hugged her before i went to the locker room to get showered and changed before we go home. When we got back home her mom had snacks waiting on us in the kitchen so we talked as we munched on some chicken fingers and skye was still being kinda short.
Me: sunshine did i do something to upset you? If i did please let me know so i can fix it i hate when my bestfriend is upset.
Skye: No Jackie you didn't do anything im just tired and had a long day. Thanks for checking on me im gonna go to my room, thanks for the chicken momma.
Skye's mom: no problem sweetie I'll see you at dinner.
After skye left i stayed and help moms clean up the kitchen and we had a little conversation.
Me: man i dont know whats going on with Skye i hate when she's upset and i don't know what happened.
Skye's mom: Sweetie she's a teen girl she could just be mad that the sky isn't as blue as she would like we don't know. Maybe just give her space if she wants it.
Me: When i went to her classroom to get her to walk her to class before i went to practice Kelly came up to me and was talking my freaking ear off and right around the time Skye came up to us Kelly was being really touchy and made me very uncomfortable.
Skye's mom: baby that's what it was skye loves you and she thinks that Kelly is trying to take you away from her. You know how protective of you she is especially over you. You're not just her best friend you're not just jackie your HER Jackie. She feels like she can be replaced and she's kinda feeling replaceable. Now you know and i know she's number 1 to you and you have her on a pedestal that no one could ever bring her down from. I think if you went to her right now and talked to her she would feel so much better so take your big ass up there on the double or your grounded for life.
Me: Yes moms i love you and I'll see you in a little while.
I make my way up to Skye's room and i can't lie I'm nervous because i want her to feel better and I'm scared i won't be able to make her feel better. When i knock on the door I've got butterflies the size of pterodactyls.
Skye: Come in
I open the door and shes sitting on the bed listening to music.
Me:Hey Sunshine mind if we talk?
Skye: Yea Jackie you can sit if you want.
I close the door then walk to her bed an sit down facing her as we start to talk.
Me: I'm sorry shorty.
Skye: Why are you sorry Jackie you didn't do anything.
Me: Well i haven't helped your mood much.
Skye: Bestie it's ok
Me: Can i ask you something??
Skye: Duh you know you can ask me anything.
Me: Did Kelly get to you earlier before practice?
Skye: Are you asking me if I got jealous?
Me: Yeah i guess you could say that.
Skye: Yeah i kinda did.
Me: why??
Skye: Because Jackie look at Kelly she's gorgeous she's popular and she's a cheerleader the story writes itself you would forget all about me.
Me: Skye look at me i could never forget about you. You're my sunshine, you're my best fuckin friend we been stuck like glue. I'll never forget our history and our memories I'd much rather hang here with you and watch a movie or watch raw or smackdown with you then go to a party or even be within 100 feet of Kelly. Kelly isn't even 1/100th as beautiful as my best friend. You're a way better person then she is. Your way smarter, funnier, classier, and sweeter then she is. Not to mention Kelly is so fucking annoying she never shuts the fuck up and her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Skye she cant compare to you if you were hit over the head repeatedly with a piece of heavy mining equipment. The only reason I haven't gotten into the wrestling business already was because I'm waiting so we can do it together like we promised we would do when we were 10. Basically what I'm saying is I'm not goin anywhere ever im still YOUR Jackie.
Skye: *tearing up* oh my God Jackie I'll never know what i did to have you as my best friend. I love you so much.
Me: I love u too kiddo. Well I guess I'll leave you alone unless there's anything else i can do to make you feel better.
Skye: Well i could use some cuddles...
Me: well I'll send him up here when he gets here.
As i get up to leave i feel Skye's cold little hand grab my hand and turn me around and i can see shes giving me puppy dog eyes and sticking her lip out pouting and trying to be as cute as possible.
Skye: Oh hell no here's how this is gonna go down we are gonna go eat what momma made for dinner, get some snacks come back in my room, and you big boy are gonna lay down on my bed an let me use you as my pillow and give me some bomb ass bestie cuddles. Ok my Jackie? You are still my Jackie aren't you?
Me: Yes ma'am always and forever.
Skye: Good boy
After moms made some amazing ribs and fries that we killed we grabbed some candy, cookies, chips, and soda Skye grabbed me by the wrist and matched us back to her room. Once we got there she pushed me on the bed and put on our favorite movie "Step Brothers". Skye then crawled on top of me an put her head on my chest. I was rubbing her back and at some point we fell asleep with smiles on our faces. This was something different. This feeling of comfort and contention was something that I never felt before. I was starting to feel different towards Skye. A few things were certain, the first thing was it was me and skye vs. The world forever and the second was things were about to get VERY INTERESTING around this house.
