RAY's POV
I used to see Mew through rose-colored glasses. He is my best friend, my confidant, and my rock. In my eyes, he could do no wrong.Seeing Mew through rose-colored glasses was like viewing the world through a filter of boundless admiration and affection. His flaws, imperfections, and mistakes were obscured by the gentle, rosy hue, making it nearly impossible to see any wrong in him. Every word he spoke seemed filled with wisdom, and every action was touched by an aura of sincerity and kindness. It was a perception where his laughter was the sweetest melody, his quirks were endearing, and his mere presence could brighten the dullest of days. Through those glasses, Mew was not just a friend; he was a flawless embodiment of all that was good and beautiful in the world, an idealized figure who could do no wrong.
The transformation of my perception of Mew had been a gradual process, one that left me grappling with conflicting emotions. Once, I saw him as an embodiment of innocence, someone who could do no wrong, but that idealized image began to unravel. What troubled me most was the subtle change in his behavior, especially in the way he interacted with others. It was as if a dark undercurrent had emerged in his actions, something I couldn't ignore. The malicious glint in his eyes, which was once absent, now appeared whenever he spotted Top or Boston. It was a glint that spoke of hidden motives and ulterior intentions, causing me to question his true character.
Mew's physical affection, from the slyly sliding of his hand into mine to the sweet whispers in my ear, began to feel disingenuous. At first, I was taken in by his gestures, believing that they were sincere expressions of his feelings. But the deeper I looked, the more I noticed the stark contrast between his public facade and his private self. In the presence of others, he acted as though he was head over heels in love with me, which left me bewildered and flattered. However, when we were alone, he reverted to his old self, cold and uncaring, as though our moments of intimacy were mere acts in a larger stage production.
The growing disparity between his public and private personas had left me feeling discontented and restless. I found myself questioning whether the innocence I'd once associated with him was merely a facade, carefully crafted to hide his true intentions. This dissonance between the Mew I thought I knew and the Mew I was beginning to see created a rift in our relationship, and I couldn't help but wonder if I had been living in a world of illusion all along.
I understand the anger of betrayal, though. How hard it must be for him to finally put his whole trust in someone, as cautious as he had been his whole life, only to find out it was misplaced. But the rose colored glasses finally broke beyond repair when one day, we were lounging in the university cafeteria and he spotted Sand passing by.
"You know Ray, I really don't understand the charm," Mew said, his voice laced with bitterness. "Yeah, he's good-looking and tall, but he's poor and turns out sluttier than I thought."
I couldn't help but be taken aback by his harsh words. "Why would you say that, Mew?" I rebutted, feeling a strange mix of anger, frustration and confusion at Mew's attitude and protectiveness towards Sand.
"Isn't it true?" Mew replied, his gaze still fixated on Sand's retreating figure. "Who knows, he probably also slept with Ton. You should ask Ton."
Without even noticing it, I found myself slamming my hand on the table in anger, catching everyone's attention, including Sand's. Thankfully, I managed to regain my composure before I lost control entirely. I told Mew to shut up before I walked out.
"Ray! Why are you so mad? I was just telling the truth!" Mew exclaimed, his voice carrying through the cafeteria as I continued to walk out. I couldn't help but wonder what had happened to my soft-spoken Mew. Had he been completely swallowed up by his anger?
