We packed everything into the trunk of my convertible (including our laptops, couldn't live without those...) and jumped in, me in the driver's seat. We took off and headed towards a QuikTrip to get essentials, like coffee (or Coca-Cola for Maddie. She HATES coffee), candy and whatever else involving junk food that they want.
As we loaded everything into the car, I hopped back in with my double-shot and put it into the cup holder, then started the car. I turned out of the store after filling the tank with gas and headed straight towards the highway. I cranked up the radio and and laughed as One Direction came on and Maddie and Jaime freaked. Alexus sighed, putting in headphones and listening to her own music, as Jaime,Maddie and I started singing the words as loud as possible, while getting weird looks from the elderly couple beside us.
"Ruby, speed up, I think they are trying to race us!" Alexus screamed, pointing at the elderly couple who were trying to speed up to get away from us.
"Alexus, we're too obnoxious! They are trying to get away from us! Besides, I'm already going the speed limit of eighty!"
"Well, then, how are they going faster than us! Huh?!"
Maddie smiled, laughed, and screamed out, "Hoodrats!!!"
"Ruby, go!"
"No! They can get pulled over, but I sure won't!" Just as I called it, an unmarked police car wailed it's sirens and sped past us, chasing the so called, "Hoodrats" going close to twenty miles an hour over the speed limit. "Told you..." I muttered.
...
It had gotten dark and, using GPS, I had driven us quite a bit and I had gotten quite tired doing so.
As I drove on the non-separated highway, I looked around and had come to a realization that everyone had fallen asleep. We had already passed the U.S./Canadian border, me showing all of the passports, and now the only few things that have been happening is the occasional car in the opposite side of the road and the changing of the songs on the radio during their slow-country-song-mania.
"Hmm, those headlights are pretty..." I muttered, getting tired. "I wonder what the color purple tastes like..." I felt the steering wheel move to the left, but I couldn't see anything. "Why does air not have a taste?"
I was shaken out of my reverie when I heard a loud honk and saw a huge semi coming straight towards us! I swerved back into my lane and pulled over, my heart racing.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT, RUBY!?" Alexus screamed.
"I'M SORRY, I GOT TIRED! I THOUGHT I COULD GO FOR A BIT MORE!" I screamed back. I soon turned around to check if Maddie and Jaime were alright.
They were both sound asleep.
Hmm, you know what?
"MADDIE! IT'S YOUR TURN TO DRIVE!" She sat up and started yelling something about a hoe. "Alexus, since you're awake, can you make sure she follows the GPS? I think it may be more dangerous for me to drive than her." I asked, hitting the button that put the top on the car. She nodded and I took Maddie's spot and quickly fell asleep.
I can't believe Ruby is making Maddie drive. I probably would've driven if I had gotten my license...
We followed the GPS and it led us to a deserted road in a forest.
"Are you sure it's right? 'Cause this doesn't seem right to me..." Maddie asked.
"Ruby said to follow the GPS, so that's what we're doing. If we don't make it to the right place, then it'll just be an adventure, then, won't it?" I muttered, reading my book.
