Maddie stepped in and said, "Whoa, whoa, whoa, just answer the damn question. Will she be dead, or not."
I looked up at Maddie and said, "I don't think you understand the situation. Look at her neck. He bit her." Tears swelled up in my eyes. "He bit her. She's turning into one of him."
"What is he?" Alexus asked. She looked up at him and he smiled, showing his fangs. She gasped and smiled. "No way, that is like the coolest thing, ever."
He nodded and said, "I suppose so, I mean, everyone has their own opinions. However, I've learned things that I never would have thought about my kind. Like how you can't change humans into vampires, unless they are your soul mate, or you are a person of great power."
"Are you a person of great power?" Maddie asked.
"No. Although I wish I was."
"Then, does that mean...?"
"That your friend, Jaime, is my soul mate? Yes. Yes it does. I'm Russel, by the way.
"It isn't like a teenager romance, or the flimsy relationships that you humans have. It's a thing where, once you see them, you know that they are yours. That you'll be spending forever with them. I suppose the saying that you humans have is "Love at first sight."" Maddie started to fiddle with the necklace she found on the car. "However, there are some cases where Vampires have certain things that remind them of their human life. These things can have certain effects on people that aren't involved in the connection of the two people. These effects can range between not hurting at all, or all the way up to lethal, but no matter the amount of pain, it always leaves a mark." As he finished, two more guys walked out of the school, towards where we were standing and Jaime's spaz fest started to slow down.
One of the guys walked up to Russel and said, "I overheard you explaining the whole soul mate deal." He walked up to Alexus and said, "Well, I guess that saves time."
"No way. Are you serious?" She asked, smiling in disbelief.
"I knew it was you as soon as you crossed over the border of the school. I'm Henry."
"I'm Alexus. You know, I always dreamed of the moment that I would meet my true love, but I never imagined it like this." She said, smiling even wider.
His eyes flicked to her neck and he asked, "May I?"
Alexus looked over at Maddie and me and said, "See you on the other side, girls." She looked back at him and nodded. As soon as he bit her on her neck, her body went limp, just like Jaime's. She fell to the ground, unconscious, and soon after, her body started to twitch like Jaime's.
All the while, Maddie was still fiddling with the necklace. I looked down at my thumb. The burn mark was still there, except it didn't really look like a burn. It looked like someone drew the design on with a permanent marker.
I got curious and looked at the necklace. "Maddie, can I see that necklace?" She nodded and took it off. As she put it in the palm of her hand to pass it to me, I matched the design with the design on my thumb and touched it, a shock flying through me. "Shit!" I drew the attention of the last guy that walked out. "The necklace is one of them. One of the things that Russel was talking about." I let go of my burning thumb and showed her the mark it left. Her eyes widened and she looked down at the necklace.
The guy walked over to Maddie and I put my hand down. He looked down to her hands where the necklace was. "Um, I think that's my necklace." she took a deep breath and looked up, slowly. As soon as she did, she blushed and looked back down at her hands. She passed the necklace over and gently put it in his hand. He gently took the necklace and put it around his neck. He took a deep breath and looked her in the eye. "It's you." He said.
