"Is she awake, yet?"

"I don't know. She should be! When I turned nineteen-"

"We know! You stayed up for a whole twenty-four hours and blah-de-blah-de-blah."

I heard my three friends Alexus, Maddie, and Jamie bicker for a few minutes, before I opened my eyes, barely, and saw my friends turned away from me, still bickering to each other. Alexus is the... Honestly, I don't really know what she is... Maddie is the one who seems crazy at first, but then you meet her and you realize that sometimes, it varies from insane to barely normal. Jaime is the one who can be, how would you say this nicely, crude? Yeah, I guess crude would be the right word to put what she is...

Me? I'm the normal, motherly-figure, nerd. The mom of this friendship.

I slowly and quietly got out of my bed and walked down the stairs to the kitchen of our two floor apartment in Seattle, Washington. I opened the refrigerator, took out a fair amount of eggs, some milk, and some ham, and started making some scrambled eggs for my friends and me.

As soon as I started the eggs, they were finished and I heard my friends come down the stairs, still bickering (but this time, it was about where I went...) and they entered the kitchen. I looked over my shoulder and smiled, "Good morning! Are you three hungry? I made breakfast!"

As soon as I said the first syllable of "hungry", Maddie, always hungry, but always skinny one, was standing next to me with a plate.

We all sat down and eat a breakfast of eggs and coffee/chocolate milk and started small talk about what to do for my nineteenth birthday.

"Well, we could have a party." Jamie suggested.

"Too repetitive. Plus we're all too young for alcohol." I muttered

"Legally..." Alexus muttered.

"Oh!" Maddie yelled, finishing her eggs.

"What?" Jamie, Alexus, and I asked.

"What if we take a road trip? We could go upstate in your convertible. Maybe cross into Canada. Go to some spa resort?" Maddie said.

"That's brilliant, Maddie! What do you guys think?" I turned to Jamie and Alexus. They nodded their heads in approval.

"Then, I guess we're going to Canada!" Maddie said, enthusiastically.

...

"Honey, I'm home!" I yelled, as I returned from work. Maddie, Alexus, and Jaime came running down the stairs and straight towards the door. I got Bitches, bitches.

"Did you bring stuff to make food?"

"Ruby, I'm hungry!"

"Why you are trying to major in MATH and not culinary arts is a mystery to me..."

"My major is Math and my minor is Science because I have a better chance at getting a higher wage. ALSO," I smiled, looked at all three of them and said, "I just got accepted into The Art Institute of Seattle to study Culinary Arts!" Their jaws hit the floor and we had a little jump party

"No way! Are you serious?!"

"Now you can learn to cook more food for us!"

"Well, it's not like you really needed any help... You're cooking is still amazing."

"First your mom, who didn't go to Culinary Arts School, and now you! I can't help but think that your cooking is going to be better than your mother's!"

I heard Maddie gasp. "Don't you dare say that about her mother's cooking! It's like a tiny heaven in a pan!"

I chuckled. "Anyway, to answer your question, yes, I did bring extra food to cook with. Just give me a bit and I'll start it." I said, while walking to the kitchen. Maddie and Jaime ran upstairs and I could hear them throwing things at each other. I pulled out all of the ingredients and started to saute some meat on the stove.
