Penelope Garcia did not deserve this. This is probably the last thing she deserves. Emily didn't know what she was going to do if she didn't make it.
She remembered Garcia calling her earlier today because she didn't want to talk to Morgan. She remembered that afterbGarcia's rambling had ended, she had lied to Morgan about what he told her.
She remembered that Garcia had called her, because JJ was unbelievable, she had asked about multiple outfits. Emily wished she would hear that chirpy voice again.
.
"Wait, which jacket should I wear?, a black one, 'cause you know black goes with everything. I have a pink one but that's too bright right? So what about sparkly or is that too much for a first date?"
"Pen. It doesn't matter"
"You did not just say that Emily Prentiss. Of course it matters"
"Okay" Emily paused for a moment. "The pinks to bright, go for the sparkles"
"Peachs! Thank you-" Garcia paused, "He is here, I go to go"
"Penelope?" Emily says, remembering what Morgan told her about him thinking this guy could be too clean.
"Yes?"
"I know what the world can do to a girl who just sees beauty in it" Emily takes a deep breath, "Promise me you'll be safe?"
"Promise" Garcia says sincerely, "Bye Bye"
.
She was pulled out of her thoughts when Morgan came in through the doors.
.
Hotch stands up. "Who was the last person she talked to?"
"I had missed calls from her, but when I called her back she didn't pick up"
"She was out on a date, she called me before to help pick her outfit. It was the guy she met at the coffee shop" Emily said.
"When she was shot, was he picking her up?" Dave asked
"No, he picked her up from her front door hours earlier, I know cause I was on the phone with her. And he walked her back to her door when dropped her off"
.
They sat for a few hours, thinking over the new information, before the doctors came through.
"It was touch and go for a minute there, but she made it. She is in post op at the moment you can see her once she is moved to a room."
"Thank you," says Hotch. Once the doctor leaves he turns back to the team. "Dave and I will go to the crime scene, I don't care, we are working this case. You all should be here when she wakes up"
About an hour later the doctor told them that she was waking up soon and that they could go and wait in her room.
The team up and followed the doctor, Emily stayed behind saying she had to make a call before coming.
She then went to the receptionist, "Hi"
"How can I help?" the person behind the desk said.
"Penelope Garcia, in Room 437. Her medical bills, I want to pay them, but I don't want her to know. Just tell her they were covered by a recent donation" Emily said.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. She is a good friend. Once she has finished her stay send the invoice to me"
When Emily finished finalising the details, she saw Dave leaning against the back wall.
"I was going to do that," He said.
"You don't need to," Emily said.
"You didn't either" He said
"I have more than enough money than I need. And we both know the Bureau won't cover it since she wasn't participating in an active case. Penelope doesn't need to worry about this. If the Bureau does come to their senses they will be happy to know costs were covered by a donation." Emily said, shrugging her shoulders.
"Come on, let's go and see her"
.
After she woke, Morgan and Reid stayed behind to go through details of the night with her. While the rest of them continued working on the case.
But things started getting worse. Garcia had encrypted files, and then was flagged by Internal affairs. Meaning that she was suspended and all her accesses were revoked. The team was thrown off the case, and all evidence taken from them.
They had bought Garcia back home, but that plan backfired when the officer on watch was killed.
.
Penelope had made a mistake. But now none of them could get the cases.
"What do we do?" Morgan says
"Prentiss, Morgan Reid stay here, the rest of us will head back to the BAU. Make sure to not forget to logout" Hotch says before leaving.
Emily leaves her computer unlocked while Morgan, her and Reid wait in another room.
She knew it was risky. She had a higher clearance than the rest of them. And hoped that Garcia wouldn't be able to see anything different.
Garcia had gotten the files. They had figured her attacker was Jason Clark Battle. Who was an Angel of Death, with a superiority complex. And he was spiralling.
It was going to end in a shower of bullets. Then a link popped up on her screen.
"That's the BAU, he is in the BAU" Garcia says.
Morgan immediately calls Hotch. Emily watches as Hotch walks out of his office and to Rossis. They needed to get into position before he made them.
Emily picked up the phone and called JJ. They needed someone behind him.
Emily saw his expression change, "They have been made" then all of a sudden all guns were up. He had the Internal Affairs guy with a gun.
He then moved his hand to the trigger, then there were 2 loud shots.
In that second he had looked back to see JJ and JJ had fired. Hitting his hand squarely. The second shot came from Hotch who hit the guy right at his left temple.
.
Garcia looked back at the Internal Affairs guy.
"Don't worry," Emily said. "He will sign your paper as soon as his hands stop shaking" she gave her a sly grin.
Emily looked to see JJ leaning against the table. JJ looked rattled, she had clearly never shot a bullet that had hit someone.
"It's okay to feel how you are", Emily says, "It's normal, but it will pass" she then walks past her to the elevator.
When she gets there she is surprised to see Strauss standing there. Emily hadn't talked to her since the previous incident.
When the doors close she begins to speak, "You know Agent Prentiss, earlier today there was some hacking done from your account"
"You're not going to fire me," Emily says.
"I'm not?"
"You have no proof whether or not it was me, plus the Bureau just got me, they aren't letting go yet" Emily said exiting the elevator.
.

That's 3 chapters. I still haven't found a title that really fits with this story. I can't even remember how many times I have changed it. So I am open to any suggestions anyone might have for titles for this story because this one still doesn't quite fit to me. Thanks for reading, :).
