It was less than 4 hours of sleep before they were called on another case. The previous case in Alaska brought back memories of Emily's past. The shoes like what you would find in a mass grave after a terrorist strike. But it still didn't make the top 10 of the worst she had seen.

When Emily gets to the crime scene, Rossi and Morgan were already there. One by one the team files in. But not Hotch. Around midday Emily starts to get worried. Hotch never missed a case, there had to be something going on.

Leaving Reid at the home of Doctor Barton, Emily goes to find Hotch. Walking down the hall of his apartment she calls his phone, after no response or sound from the apartment she reaches back for her gun. The other hand reached for the door handle. Turning it she finds it unlocked.

Quickly pushing the door open and holding her gun up, she enters the apartment closing the door behind her. The first thing she notices is the smell, she looks around her eyes locking on the car keys on the table. So he hadn't left the house. She walks in, and sees the blotch of vibrant red on the carpet.

Blood.

The glass on the floor.

The phone by the blood.

The bullet hole in the wall.

But no Hotch.

The address book was open.

The 'B' section was ripped out.

Still holding the gun in her right hand, she used her left hand to call Garcia. After informing her, she hung up and called Reid.

"Reid?"

"Emily", he pauses, "Are you on your way back?"

"I need you to listen to me. You can't tell the team, they need to focus on the case"

"Okay?"

"Hotch isn't here, there is blood on the floor, a bullet hole in the wall. Things are scattered around, I have called it in"

"What?"

"I have got this covered, focus on the case"

"Okay" He says with determination

"I mean it when I say, you can't tell anyone, I have told Garcia but you can't tell anyone"

She hangs up, when she sees Bureau techs show up. She watched as they noted everything, and bagged it up.

The "B" section had to mean something, but for the life of her, Emily couldn't think of anyone who would be in the "B" section.

When Garcia calls she picks up the phone.

"I called hospitals to see if Hotch was in any emergency room, but it came up empty. But at St. Sebastian hospital, a John Doe was dropped off with the name of FBI Agent Morgan."

Wait, Emily thought it didn't make sense, then, "Shit"

"What?" Garcia's voice came from the other side

"The Reaper" Emily realised, "Foyet had Morgan's creds, Tell me what hospital was it?"

"St.Sebastian"

"On it. I will call you" Emily ends the calls, walking out of the apartment, leaving the techs and LEO's there.

.

Once reaching the hospital, Emily flashes her badge and gets directed to the surgical floor. Exiting the elevator, Hotch's is the first room she sees.

Inside she sees a doctor checking his stats. When the doctor comes out she introduces herself, and asks about Hotch.

"He came out of surgery an hour ago, and should be sedated for the next few too."

"Can I sit with him?"

"Ofcourse" the doctor says, leaving Emily there.

Emily sits on the chair beside his bed, watching him slowly breathe. Emily knew what it was like for the monsters you hunt, to follow you home. And she was going to do anything she could to make sure Foyet paid for his crimes.

Aaron couldn't have come here on his own, with the severity of his wounds, so Foyet had to drop him off. Emily got up, leaving him there to go to the nurses station.

After flashing her badge she says, "I need to see your security cameras at the entrance where Aaron Hotchner was dropped off"

.

After checking the feeds, Emily discovers Foyet dropping Aaron off, but you couldn't tell which way he went. The car he was in was reported stolen a few days ago. She sits back at Hotch's side, waiting for the team.

A few hours later she sees Hotch's fingers twitch, she stands up just in time to see his eye's flicker open.

"Hotch?"

A very raspy, "Foyet" comes out, Emily turns around to get the glass of water that was on the table. But when she sees him, she finds him with his eye's closed and asleep.

.

When she hears heavy footsteps coming down the hall she knows it's the team. She stands up, and walks out the room to them.

"He still isn't conscious yet" she says to Morgan, Rossi and JJ.

"Are you sure it was Foyet?" Rossi asks

"Yes, you can see Foyet dropping Hotch off on the security cameras, but you can't see where he went from there. The car he was driving was stolen"

During their conversation a nurse walks up to them, telling them that Hotch was waking up.

They ask him about what happened, and Emily tells him about the address book, he tells them that Hayley's maiden name was Brooks.

The team set off to go to Hotch's old address, while Emily opted to stay behind with Hotch. When he goes into distress, Emily's heart stops. No one deserves to die this way. When Hotch pulls through she breathes a sigh of relief.

.

When the team brings Hayley and Jack Emily steps out. And make a call, no one picks up but Emily leaves a message.

"Pat, I'm calling in that favour now, you are about to get 2 people into WITSEC under the name, Brooks and Hotchner. I need you to keep an eye on them, and inform me on an changes"

Ending the calls, she walks to the window to see Hayley and Jack being escorted into a car by a state marshall.

.

Two months after Foyet came after Hotch, Hotch is ready to go back to work. Emily stood outside of his apartment. Knocking on his door she waits for him.

"Prentiss, What are you doing here?"

"I'm driving you to the airport"

"Emily you don't need too"

"I know Aaron, But you need it"

.

2 weeks after coming back to work Emily could tell Hotch wasn't doing well. She was still driving him to work and back, and one day on the way home she took her opportunity.

When she parked the outside of his apartment, "Wait" she said

"Yeah?"

"I called a favour into the state department"

"Why?" he asks puzzled

"Into WITSEC, and Jack and Hayley are doing fine. I know it's not much, my friend didn't leave a trail, but it's something"

"Thank you" He said, Emily could see tears in his eyes, "I appreciate it, and the driving me"

"Anytime"
