She did realise the date until Penelope made a comment about the days until Christmas. It was the 11th of December, this was the day 4 Years ago that she escaped Doyle's compound. 4 Years since Declan and Louise were free.

She supposes she never realises it before since she was always on a case. Serial killers had a habit of picking up around the holiday season.

She can still remember it like yesterday. The time they spent together, the lies she told him, and the ones that were cemented in the truth. She remembered how kind he was at home, with Declan, with her. But she also remembered how he wanted Declan to take after him. She remembered the 3 days she spent locked up in his basement.

"I should just kill you"

Emily remained silent, blood was dried on the side of her head, from when he had pushed her earlier. Blood trickled down her front from where he had carved into her. The smell was-

She was pulled out of her thoughts when Morgan asked her a question. Looking down at her watch she saw that it was about 1:30pm.

Picking up her finished files she walked up to Rossi's office. Hotch hasn't been back since Hayley died. But that was best for him and Jack. Rossi and Morgan had been sharing the role until Hotch came back.

They had been called to a case after the funeral, which was the only case in the last 6 weeks. Hotch was due back on Monday.

Knocking on the door before she walked in, she put the files on his desk.

"All done?"

"Yeah" she said, "actually I was wondering if I go have the rest of the day off?"

"Sure, I don't think we have any cases, so you should be good to go"

She bid her farewell and left.

.

Getting in her car she drove to Reston. Once she got to the house, she walked to the door hoping so one was home. She rung the doorbell.

Louise opened the door, "you know you have keys for a reason" she was smiling but it didn't match her eyes.

Emily knew she had keys, but she always felt that it was better to knock. She walked in and took her coat off, hanging it on a hook.

"you noticed the date too"

When Emily's eyes met Louise, she saw her expression sadden. She nodded too. "Brings back the memories doesn't it?"

After a moment of silence, Louise spoke, "It's almost time to pick up Dec, want to come?"

"Yes"

.

The day that Hotch was back, they were called to a case. The case seemed simple enough until it wasn't.

After they had got the unsub, Emily offered to drive him back to the station with an officer. But it went south.

She noticed him getting fiddly and glancing out the window as if waiting for something.

It all happened in a flash.

Shrader unbuckled his belt and then the truck came crashing into them.

.

Her head hurt. That was her first thought. She was going to need some ibuprofen to be able to go to work.

It was the sharp pain in her legs that brought awareness back to the rest of her body. She wasn't at home, in her bed. She was in the car with Bunting.

Bunting.

Emily opened her eyes, vision covered with black spots.

The truck had t boned into them. Sending their car rolling into the ditch.

She slowly turned her head to see hands around Bunting's neck.

A man was running towards their car. Potentially the truck driver?

She tried to yell at him,but she was ignored. She was starting to think that no sound was coming out at all. Till she noticed. The man was helping him, he was his partner.

They were talking, but she couldn't make out the words.

"Put pressure on it"

"There is a lot of blood"

"Put pressure on it"

Who was he talking to?

In that moment her mind came back to focus. She reached below her legs, where she knew there was a gun. She picked it up, then lifting her leg up, she kicked the window out.

Climbing over the car, she began to shoot at the truck. Hoping to hit something or someone.

But the truck kept on driving on.

10 minutes later Morgan finds her.

.

In the hospital she can feel the nurse staring at her. The scars on her.

She had 2 broken ribs, very mildly. Bruised some bones. A sprained ankle. But she had a deep gash on her left hand. She didn't realise until the nurse pulled back her sleeve that the cloth was soaked with blood. Her blood.

It hit her then. The mystery guy, the partner. Was talking to her.

"There is a lot of blood"

"Put pressure on it".

He was talking to her.

He was talking to her

She focused on the memory she had already compartmentalised, focusing on all the details. Effectively giving herself a cognitive interview. She had plates and enough for someone to make a sketch.

.

Emily got herself discharged and then updated the team.

It wasn't hard to track down sharader, it wasn't even that hard to pull the trigger. She knew it was her bullet, she had pulled the trigger quicker than Morgan.

After that the case ended in a flash and they were already on their way home.

Once the plane landed, Hotch drove her home. But when she entered the apartment she noticed that the lights in the living room were on. By the door were a pair of shoes, a pair of shoes she recognised.

"Clyde I didn't give you a key just so you could enter at anytime"

"Well darling, I was coming over for work, and figured that this is cheaper than paying for a hotel room"

"Yeah, Yeah" Emily said, as she sat next to him on the couch.

"I was surprised that on the plane, I got a call that your name had been flagged at a hospital, Please tell me you didn't drive here"

"No, no Hotch dropped me off"

"The boss dropped you off?" He said with a glint in his eye

"Stop it, There is nothing of that sort, going on with anyone in my life"

"Your boring"

"I know" He said.

"Are you staying for christmas?"

"Yeah, I thought I would come spend some time with you and the little man. I bought some of those British candies you and him like"

"Gimme"

"No uh, you have to wait until christmas" he said wiggling his finger.

"Your no fun" She pouted.
