Chapter Three

I stood frozen staring at the door. I fought with my own mind to move. Just fucking move. I thought to myself and finally was able to shift my body and take a step until Caesarion caught my arm and gently pushed me behind him. I looked up staring at the back of his head as he reached for the knob and said "Remember I will protect you." The knocks got fiercer and he quickly opened it until I heard "Who the hell are you?" I peeped over Caesarion's shoulder and saw a confused wide eyed Sarah. I let out a breath "Jesus Sarah I wasn't even expecting you." I gently pushed Caesrion aside and hugged Sarah she felt limp in my arms and I pulled her inside and looked at her as she was still wide eye staring at Caesarion. He looked at her and nodded not knowing the customary greetings as reaching for a handshake but before I allowed him to speak I pulled her to the kitchen. My apartment was an open concept, the kitchen was only separated from the living room with the breakfast bar. "He's freaking huge." Sarah said in a whisper and I sighed. "Yeah he's a giant." I looked over and watched him sitting down again watching the door. "My god you went from Brett to this he's beyond hot if I wasn't getting married I would be all over that." I rolled my eyes and then snapped my fingers "Focus what are you doing here?" She snapped out of it and raised her eyebrow "You're joking right? I freaking came because you hung up on me which by the way so unlike you and it's a good thing too because no matter how hot that guy is out there what is he doing here still?! Remember one night stands you do it and boot it." I slapped my forehead and looked over at him which made me even more embarrassed because he was smirking he could hear everything. "Sarah it's not like that I'm just helping him out and we need to leave." She slapped my arm "Are you serious like fugitives what the hell did you do? Did you steal the statue?" I shook my head "No." then I thought about it "Maybe but it's not how you think." She scoffed "That makes no sense my god how the hell did you do it?" I began to panic I never kept anything from her. She has been my childhood best friend she knew every secret and I knew all of hers plus I'm a terrible liar which she can see right through. "You're my best friend Sarah you know that and I wouldn't ever lie to you. Right? You know that." She nodded and looked at me suspiciously "Umm okay" I sighed "H-He's a stripper from your party I met and we are gonna run and get hitched." She slapped me hard on the arm "Don't lie." I rubbed my arm "Ow that was a test okay so you know I am a terrible liar so just know no matter how crazy this sounds it's the truth." She rolled her eyes and waved her arms "Spill it out!" I hesitated and just as I spoke Caesarion spoke "Are you sure telling her is wise Elise? It can put her in danger." My heart began to beat faster I didn't even think it through I was so desperate to tell someone so I didn't feel alone with this I didn't think about the consequences. "No no you have to tell me especially if Mr.Hot stuff is putting you in danger." She walked up to him and pressed her finger against his chest "I swear to you if you're holding her hostage I will kill you." He smirked and leaned his head down and in a growl "I invite you to." I shook my head and came between them "Stop it!" I looked at Caesarion "How will she be in danger?" He sighed and looked at her before answering me "He can torture anyone to get information." I thought about it "But he doesn't know who I am yet." He took a moment and thought for a bit "Why do you want to take that chance?" I sighed "Caesarion she's important to me and she may be able to help us." He nodded accepting my answer and I turned to her and she was giggling "Wow Caesarion as in the last Pharaoh of Egypt the son of Cleo and Julius. Your parents must have been archeologists or historian fanatics." He clenched his fists and his eyes began to glow I blurted out "He is the lost king!" She laughed out harder now and we both just stared at her "I'm serious." She just kept laughing and I grabbed her by the arms and stared into her eyes "I know this sounds insane I wish I was lying but you know how I suck at it so know what I'm saying is true." She stopped laughing and looked at him who was almost glaring at her then she looked at me "How?" I breathed a sigh of relief and then Caesarion told her everything he told me and I told her the events that happened last night.
She sat on my couch for 2 hours speechless my cat was out of her carrier and was purring and caressing her leg with her tail. I sighed and looked at Caesarion "I think I broke her." He looked concerned "You shattered her brain?" I laughed nervously "No no I don't have the power to do that." I kept looking at my door and the clock and knelt down in front of Sarah "Look I'm sorry to do this to you but we have to go." She shook her head "No don't go." I held her hands tightly "Sarah I need to go and I can't tell you for your own good okay. Just be safe and hopefully this will all be resolved soon." She stood up "I can help you, you know I love Egypt and Rome it's the reason why I became a history teacher remember?" I sighed and actually I did forget how she would talk endlessly about the pyramids. I looked at Caesarion and he let out a huff "Very well then but she must be limited with our location for you're own protection." I almost felt relieved my best friend was apart of it but guilty because I was putting her in harm; I don't even know what we will be dealing with. She smiled and hugged me tight and I began grabbing my bags. Caesarion had my cat in his arms staring at her intently his eyes glowing and then stopped. I never questioned his eyes the way they glowed but then again I have still so many questions. He took my cat and placed it in Sarah's arms. "She will protect you she answers to Bastet and the goddess just gave word that she will protect you." Sarah's eyes widen "Wait as in the ancient Egyptian cat goddess?" Caesarion nodded his head confirming and she sighed "I am trying to get use to believing if any of this is real." I agreed with her feeling the same as I'm about to be on the run with a man that was once a statue and I have no idea what's going to happen. I turned to the door and looked at Sarah "Ok take care I promise I will check in every few hours." She nodded "Yeah I will lock up here and do some research for you on Cleopatra and if they recently discovered anything." I smiled and hugged her tightly "Thank you I know this is a lot and you're still skeptical but I'll be okay." Once she pulled away she looked at Caesarion and pointed at him "Don't let her get hurt not even a scratch because if so I will break your legs." He snickered something in his native tongue and I rushed him out before she can throw a punch.
