the pogues walked out of the pawn shop and got back into the van.
john b began driving to the address of the warehouse that they were given. all they could see were trees and old signs for miles and miles.
"ive never even heard of resurrection drive" sarah turned around to face the four of them in the cab.
"thats cause you're rich" jj remarked.
"you've never heard of it either" madilyn retorted before smacking his leg.
the brunette girl turned her attention to the window. she heard her brother's friends bantering but she had tuned them out, a skill she learned from her childhood.
madi's thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a loud siren. she whipped her body around with a gasp to look out the back windshield.
"cops? out here?" kiara asked.
"are you kidding me?" jj grunted.
sarah whipped around as well, "what did we even do?"
"did you bring the gun?" john b asked the blonde boy who was busy hiding the gold under the seat.
"no, alright? everyone told me to leave it back at the place" the blonde exhaled, fumbling with a bag of weed.
the pogues continued to banter, madi keeping her eyes glued to the cop car. "guys?" she tried to alert them.
"guys he's walking up!" she said again.
"guys?!"
it was at that moment there was a gun held against john b's forehead.
"why don't i go ahead and see them hands in the air?" the supposed cop cocked the gun. all six of the teens slowly brought their hands up. the vehicle was completely silent, the only sound being a choked sob that escaped madilyn's mouth.
"you, out of the car! let's go!" he shook the gun in john b's face.
madi's entire body began to shake as she watched her brother being held at gunpoint. she wanted to get out and help him, she wanted to hug sarah, and she wanted to curl up in a ball, but she couldnt do any of that because her body wouldn't move.
"let them out! let them out!!" the guy demanded. john b slowly opened the door and everyone began to climb out.
madi was the last one out. "there you go pretty girl" he pointed the gun at the her.
"don't touch her!" jj gritted. he took a step forward and was greeted with the barrel of a gun on his chest. "you got somethin to say bitch?" the guy screamed.
"jj-" kiara stopped him.
"alright, just chill out!" the blonde reasoned.
"lay down in the ditch!!" the guy yelled again, pointing the gun at each of the teens, "yall heard me! on your damn hands and knees!" he screamed louder as everyone got on their hands and knees.
"ill blow your damn heads off!"
madi's breath hitched as she pressed her face onto the rocky ground. jj glanced over at her and discreetly reached for her hand, squeezing it when the guy wasn't looking.
the brunette girl clamped her eyes shut and opened them again to see the supposed cop digging through the van.
"wait, no no no no no" madi heard the sound of her best friend's whisper. she turned her head to see her brother slowly standing up, and her best friend trying to hold him back.
"john b-" pope called, "don't be a hero man"
madilyn's heart sank at the sight of her brother running over to the fake cop car but she was startled by the sound of the man yelling again.
"yall just stay like that, unless you want your brains blown out all over this road. don't move your heads okay?"
the group watched as the guy got into his car again. the car began to shake and he soon stumbled out with john b.
"guys! i got the gun!!" the brunette boy yelled to his friends. the rest of them began to run over to where he stood.
everything happened so fast that madi's head started spinning and before she could make sense of what was happening, the man was on the ground and jj tore his mask off before yelling at him.
"listen-" the guy choked, "i coulda hurt any single one of yall-" jj cut him off by slamming the gun into his face, a large bruise forming on his temple.
"chill out man!" pope grabbed the boy's shoulder to turn him around. "let's get out of here."
jj reached down and pulled a wallet from the guys pocket and pulled out a license.
"we got one last stop to make" jj gritted, storming back to the van.
madilyn turned to her brother after everyone else made their way to the twinkie.
"you okay?" the boy asked.
"i- i don't- im not" she stammered.
"hey, it's okay" john b said, "we're okay. i got you" he said as he wrapped her into a hug.
