Chapter 3
[Dakota’s P.O.V]
“WEDGIE’S ALL GOOD, EVERYBODY!” I assure everyone, cradling the rolled-up hedgehog in my hands. I’m not mad at Arianna anymore; I’m just not going to lend her Wedgie as often as I do. Melanie puts a hand on my shoulder.
“Yes Dakota, because we all thought Wedgie was dead,” she says sarcastically.
I narrow my eyes at her, but then I walk to sit on Arianna’s purple bed, setting Wedgie on my lap. He’s pretty obedient, so I don’t have to keep my eye on him all the time. Levi sits on the floor next to Alli, while Melanie and Arianna sit next to me on the bed.
“I can’t believe Ms. Martin gave us a project to start on the first day of school!” Levi complains, putting his head between his knees.
I groan loudly, forgetting about the project Ms. Martin assigned us. We have to work with a partner and make a short film about each of our lives. Luckily, I get assigned with Damien. I know it isn’t really lucky, but at least he’s not THAT much of an asshole… personality wise, anyways. Alli and Arianna were the lucky ones who don’t have Ms.Martin. We got to choose our classes this year… I made a pretty bad choice.
“Who’d you guys get as partners?” Alli asks curiously.
“I got Damien.” I respond.
“I got Rocket,” says Melanie, sadly.
“And I got Trinity,” says Levi.
Damien and Rocket were part of the ‘popular’ group. Trinity was one of the normal ones, and from what I can tell, she’s pretty cool. Arianna scrunches her nose at Rocket’s name.
“Ugh, Rocket is a whore.”
I don’t disagree with her, because she definitely IS. I’m pretty sure she’s slept with half of the guys at this school over the period of two months last year. Girls too, probably. Who knows? I flip on my stomach, careful to set Wedgie on my shoulder.
“Well, at least Levi got a slightly NORMAL person!” I say, happy for him. He shrugs his shoulders, still not happy to do work.
“You too, Dakota! I’m stuck with… Rocket.” Melanie shudders as she says Rocket’s name. I roll my eyes at her. I don’t know if it’s that she’s AFRAID of Rocket, or just hates her guts. She IS mean to everyone that’s below her in the school’s food chain, so I understand why she dislikes her so much. Trust me, I don’t like her either. Arianna wraps an arm around Melanie’s shoulders.
“Don’t worry chica, if Rocket does anything to you, just tell Dakota and I, and we WILL, I repeat, WILL, slap a whore.” she assures. I give her thumbs up in agreement.
“Tell me when and where, and I will kill her with my ninja skills!”
“REFLEXES!” Alli reminds me.
“Ninja skills!”
“Reflexes!”
“Ninja skills!”
“Reflex-“
“OKAY ALLI, JUST LET THIS GIRL HAVE HER MOMENT!” Melanie screams, breaking up our fighting.
Alli’s just jealous of my ninja skills, that’s all. I flip upside down on Arianna’s bed, so now I’m upside down with Wedgie on my stomach. I giggle loudly because his little pokey things are tickling me… I don’t know what those things are, don’t judge me. Arianna looks at me strangely for giggling.
“What, giggling is a crime now?” I ask.
A girl can’t giggle without being judged nowadays? Remind me to get my pet velociraptor on her. His name is Joe, and he’s rainbow colored and he wears a purple suit. He looks pretty snazzy in it if you ask me! Maybe I can ask him to attack Arianna! Then he’ll be abl- Alli snaps her fingers in my face.
