The Mess

January 16

1740 Hours

A piece of spaghetti flung across the room, as though in slow motion, straight at Mike, again! Murray threw it at his face, and it hit him right on the target. Mike exchanged Murray with a look of anger, and ran over to the empty lunch area where you get the spaghetti. I quickly rolled my eyes at his idea. The situation was already escalating, and everyone was just watching as it did so, not knowing what to do.

Outside, it started to rain. Little, clear, and small rain droplets stained the windows, while the hollow trees simply swayed in a small motion. The outside gave off a weird, dark type of view, and the grey clouds towering over us could be even more menacing. It could look calming to people who liked rain, but it started thundering another second after, a white flash suddenly appearing as a roar outside.

In Mikes haste to fight back, he took one of the trays on top of the tower of trays near the lunch line and threw it over to Murray like a boomerang. Murray tried to get away, but it hit him dead on in the face. Some people still had their food in the mess. Some kids laughed at Murray while others just watched in amusement and fear. Murray looked at Mike angry now, his face looking slightly red because of the impact.

"Guys! Don't fight over food!" I exclaimed, trying to calm down the situation. Both Mike and Murray were now upset at each other, and both didn't seem to actually care about my words. I could see the pure fury raging, although Mike looked more mad than Murray. Like I thought and said, my comment didn't work well. "Get out of this Ben!" Mike yelled at me.

Mike was now about to fling another grey tray filled with spaghetti at Murray boomerang style when someone yelled out, "FOOD FIGHT!" I didn't know who the voice was, but it sounded high pitched, and chipper, although a hint of deviousness could be heard in it. I turn around in a quick heap to see a girl with brown hair and a maroon headband on. She was short for her age, possibly 4'9, and had emerald green eyes staring at the situation in glee.

Murray grinned at the new girl's comment, staring at her with a look full of glee and happiness. Weird. Mike and Murray then started flinging any type of food they could get a hold on at each other. Other kids joined in, throwing food at Murray, Mike, or even at each other. Soon, the whole situation escalated, and now the mess was filled with laughing, picky children throwing and screaming their lungs out at each other just for fun and chaos.

Everything was loud, as though my ears were pitched to the max volume. It made my ears make a weird static noise once in a while. Food was being thrown everywhere, as though in slow motion, and some got on me too. Finally, I couldn't help but smile at how this situation became. Even with all the chaos, it was still funny. I ran over to the not so filled lunch line, trying to get trays and spaghetti to join in.

Trays, foods, and even drinking beverages were being thrown at others at fast speeds. I had to duck and dive a few times not to be drenched by water or power-aid. Kids giggled and pointed at the situation unfolding bigger and bigger throughout the mess. I wondered if the CISA was even going to figure this out, and if they even did, were we going to be in trouble?

I looked around the mess and within all the chaos, I realized there was a non chaotic area. It had the characteristics of being quiet, and most kids didn't dare to even walk toward the table causing the such silence.

The table was where the girl was sitting, all alone, reading a book and eating a salad. I hadn't ever gotten her name, even when I was asking her. She seemed distance, as though away from everyone else. She also seemed very secretive and possibly lonely.
