Not knowing where to start. Not knowing how to begin something completely new and out of the ordinary. It wasn't a unique feeling, as it wasn't her first time. But each and every time she has had to experience it she felt as if there was a tall, metal wall in her brain blocking off her flow of imagination and creativity. So as Blair Mayfield stood in Kings Cross station, train ticket in hand, she couldn't help but feel as if she was gonna vomit her insides any second now.
Years of searching and dragging her own mind, she finally found what she was looking for but no matter how hard shes been readying herself, she has no control over the waves of anxiety and worry her mind was sending to her heart. She wasn't just Blair Mayfield standing in Kings Cross station, train ticket in hand. She was Blair Mayfield, a 15 year old American witch, finally standing in Kings Cross station, train ticket in hand, waiting to board the train that will take her to the school she been waiting to go to since she found out that a person that she met a very long time ago was in attendance at "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."
Finding out who she was, what she could do, months of tracking him down, figuring out if he was even alive, finding out where he was located, arranging everything to work out the way she found most convenient, connecting and meeting with strange new people, moving from the place she already knew and found comfortable.
Breaking her own rule: don't interfere with the past.
"There's nothing you can do," she used to tell herself, that being the only way she could deal with the guilt and mourn without corrupting her own mind every time she was forced to experience the same thing.
Every time she was forced to remember things from her past life. Remember the faces of those she loved. The way those memories pulled on her heart strings causing her to ache and wail, every time she reached 10 years of age.
This time, her 14th life, she felt a different type of pain. This pain was caused by something her 12th life and all her lives before that, wouldn't have understood.
Magic.
A concept viewed as a fantasy idea, only seen in movies and read in books created by the creative minds of people who didn't really believe in it.
Magic caused her pain and sorrow in her 13th and 14th life.
Blair had remembered an important aspect from her 13th life.
Her family.
Her husband and young son.
Rage flooded her mind when she remembered how early they were taken away from her and how early she was taken away from them.
Regret for not cherishing that life more than she did.
Remembering her ex-husband James and her son Harry.
Sympathy for her 13th life, Lily.
So as much as this felt like a punch to the face, Blair Mayfield made her way towards the obscure platform of 9 3/4. She needed no help as she knew it all too well.
"Hurry up, Ron, we're gonna miss the train because of you and your non existent capability of being prepared once in your lifetime," spoke a feminine like voice. The voice went in one ear and out the other as Blair was still searching for the odd train, baggage cart in front of her.
"Hermione relax, we still have 15 minutes. And no need to be so judgmental! I have been prepared on multiple occasions," another spoke, this time a boy, his accent thick.
After a few minutes Blair noticed she walking the same direction at the trio of people near her age.
"Ron!" She heard the same feminine voice again and go decided to search for it after a few seconds, she spotted a potential owner. A young girl around her age, pale with curly russet locks that ran down a bit past her shoulders. "You need hurry up or the train will leave us and the last time that happened, you two almost got yourselves killed. Even worse, you could've gotten expelled."
"Hermione we've talked about this," a pale, ginger boy dragged on, as if she has said that before.
"Right well we should get going shouldn't we," spoke another voice. She looked for where it came from and her eyes landed on a boy. Brunette hair that was clearly grown out and went down to his neck, classes that seemed perfect for his face type, and the white owl that no one questioned.
She knew everything she needed to know.
Reaching the platform's entrance she readied herself to walk through the wall but was stopped by a tap on her shoulder. Turning around she was met with the brunette boy she had seen before.
"You dropped this," his voice was quiet compared to everyone else's around them. Starring down, he was handing her a book on astronomy. One she had a copy of when she was Lily and was overly obsessed with.
"Thank you'" she replied, unsure of what else to say or if she even had to say anything else. She grabbed it from it and gave a small smile as she turned back around to face the entrance of the platform or what muggles saw it as which was a brick wall.
No matter how many times she has down this, the fear of hitting a brick wall still existed inside her deep down.
She closed her eyes, gripping onto the cart handle and ran, not opening her eyes once.
But the force never came and when she opened her eyes she saw the most extraordinary scene.A tremendous train, red with touches of black. The front visible to her, the words "Hogwarts Express" plastered onto the face of the beauteous locomotive, in gold letters.
Noticing the time, Blair quickly gathered her self and made her way to the middle of the platform, getting into the cart.
A good amount of compartments were still vacant due to the number of students still pleading farewell to their loved ones and those who have come to their departure. It was when Blair sat down, after settling all of her luggage, she realized not a single soul had come to see her off. Hurtful, definitely, but not unusual as many of her life times required this specific kind of loneliness and longing.
After some time, the students of Hogwarts had finally settled and the trains horn had sounded signaling that they were off. Head against the window, the girl took in the sight of the landscape the ride to Hogwarts gave, trees and bodies of water showing. However, the peacefulness of the scenery was cut short as a sudden sound of the compartment door opened. Turning her head to look at who it was that interrupted her viewing, a voice sounded.
"Do you mind if I sit here?" It was a boy she hadn't seen before. "I don't think I can take the bickering of the people in my compartment any longer."
