It was a boy she hadn't seen before.Being caught by surprise, Blair nodded her head motioning her hand over to the seat across from her.
"No, I don't mind."
The boy made his way to sit across from her, book in hand, as he muttered a "Thank you."
She finally able to take in the appearance of the boy. He was taller than her, maybe 5'9, pale, wearing a dark, slick black suit. What stood out most, besides his platinum blond hair that fell a bit messy, was the noticeable shade of blue in his eyes.He looked down at the old, vintage book he had brought along with him, opening it up.
Blair had nothing to do but do what she was doing before. She, once again, leaned her head against the window, her long, wavy, brunette hair pulled to side, not wanting it to be pushed against her face. After a while, her neck had gotten sore from the bending it was doing and the guy in front of her was still reading, his neck also visibly tense.
Wanting something else to do she spoke up.
"What are you reading?" Her voice soft and gentle, not wanting to disturb the tranquility in the air.
The boy looked up, her voice catching him by surprise. He slowly closed his book and looked back down at the cover. Anyone could tell he was hesitant to tell her but being that he didn't even know her he spoke, "Pride and Prejudice."
The title name made Blair's eyes go wide as she sat up in her seat, a smile forming on her face.
Before she could even say anything the boy quickly spoke.
"Bet you find that funny."
Blair could tell he was embarrassed although she couldn't figure out the reason why."Why would I find that funny," uncertainty laced in her tone. "I've read it at least 5 times. It's one of my favorites." She looked at him, her lips curled just a bit.
"Oh," he started, unsure of what to say. "Well... you know since it's a muggle book. I'm midway through it. I started it not too long ago." The feeling in the air was one of comfort. Comfort because they were complete strangers. Strangers who had no expectations of each other, no preset thoughts and no glaring looks. So they had no reason to hide.
"If there's one thing muggles are good at, it's writing," she giggled, her voice still soft and honey like.
Because she is no introvert, Blair stuck out her hand, a warm, calm look on her face. "Blair Mayfield," she stated, waiting for his hand to meet hers.
Waves of warmth met her hand as she heard him go, "Draco Malfoy."
"I suppose you're new? I haven't seen you around at Hogwarts. Also, your accent," Draco questioned, leaning back into his seat, placing his book on the side of him.
Nodding her head, she replied, "Yea, I transferred from America. It's my first day. I'm in my 3rd year." Draco nods, hearing her. "Interesting. I'm in my 4th year. So you're..." he dragged on, bringing his hand to the nape of his neck. "14?"
"No 15," the girl corrected him. "My birthdays in July so.."
He nodded again, letting her know he understood.
"16?" She takes her turn and asks him.
"Yea."
The sound of the compartment door, once again, interrupting the peacefulness.
At the door stood another boy, also around their age, hair brown, like Blair's, neatly done. His eyes tired but lively at the same time."We've been looking for you, Malfoy. Blaise started talking about his weird knitting things again cause we ran out of people to talk about. Or things, whatever," the odd boy spoke, clearly Draco's friend. He had a laugh laced in his last sentence.
"Go back so that you all can annoy the bloody hell out me and interrupt my reading?" Draco looked up at him, a bothersome look plastered onto his face. "No.""I'm sorry we talked bad about Pride and Justice and that Jane girl. Now will you please come back." He pleaded, wanting to get this over with as Draco was his friend and a part of him wouldn't be okay with the fact that their friend moved away from them out of infuriation.
"Pride and Prejudice."
The voice of the girl cutting through the air, still calm.
She looked up at him with a friendly expression, not giving off any hint of animosity towards him.
"Oh," he dropped. "Whatever," he murmured. The expression quickly dropped off the girls face as her eyebrows furrowed, obviously offended.
Draco, noticing their little interaction and how it wasn't going too well, stood up making his way out the compartment. Looking back at Blair, he quickly showed her a small, gentle smile, expressing his appreciation, which, at the time, was a rare occurrence.
The two boys left, making their way back towards where they came from, leaving Blair alone again, just her and the scenery outside the moving train.
After hours on end, the train had finally came the a stop, the school uniform already worn by the girl.
Stepping out of the train, a prominent smell of fresh soil with a salty essence hit her, almost as if the wind was welcoming her. The strange idea sent a wave of relief over her, glad that someone or something was happy with her presence at Hogwarts.
Walking alone, she spotted the trio she had seen hours before. She decided to keep her distance considering she was gonna be going to the same school as them.
Blair soon found herself in a carriage with a few other students she didn't know the names of. Being hauled off by... nothing... she noticed that the one next to them was also heading to Hogwarts at the same time. More students claimed the carriage but one caught her eye in particular.
Honestly if you asked her what she was doing there Blair wouldn't be able to give you a reason. She herself didn't have a clue as to why she was there. But she was. And in the moment the only thing that was on her mind was how grown up the boy she had called her son was and how much he was a perfect mix of his two dear parents.
Shall they rest in eternal peace.
