"Why are you here?"
Yixing stood at the door quietly, almost timidly, his eyes shifting around my room with uncertainty. It was the first time I'd seen him so genuinely anxious and unsure of himself.
"Sorry, I-I couldn't wait," he muttered.
"How'd you even get here?"
"I took a cab."
"No, I mean how'd you know where I live?"
He smiled sheepishly. "My car's GPS."
"Wow," I chuckled humorlessly, going to sit on my bed. "Just go home, Yixing. Or better yet, go keep talking shit about me with my parents. At least that'll be more fun that being being stuck with a literal black hole of joy and all things positive."
He winced, eyes flashing as he finally seemed to register how red my own probably were. He crossed the room, coming to a stop in front of me.
"Luhan... Look at me."
I stubbornly kept my eyes downcast, feeling tears sting at them yet again, but not wanting him to see how much all that shit really affected me.
Sighing, he pulled me close to him, my face pressing into his abdomen as his hands gently carresed my hair.
Despite myself, I felt my tears pathetically start to fall the moment I felt his warmth around me, wetting his shirt.
"I'm sorry, Luhan," he whispered. "That day, I... Wasn't expecting you to kiss me. I was surprised, and... I didn't know how to react. So I did what I always do best which is joke and fuck around... I didn't mean to hurt you. You may not even realise it, but you bring so much joy to my life just by being there. And I'd be damned if I fuck that up too."
Speechless, I only dug my face harder into his abdomen, my hands clutching his shirt.
"Your parents love you, Luhan. They care about you. Why else do you think it bothers them so much that you're so sad all the time? God, just being with your family for one dinner made me forget the fact that... It made forget the fact that mine was in shambles."
At that, I found myself slowly pulling away, still holding on to his shirt. I looked up at his face, and for the very first time, I could see the hurt clearly, no teasing, no playfulness, just plain hurt.
He smiled a little, wiping my tears away with his thumbs.
"Before we met, it was like I had this dark cloud around me. It felt like everything was going to shit. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be able to live down the humiliation of having a seizure in front of everyone in class... Of hearing people talk and gossip behind my back and in front of my face. It's happened to me before I moved here, and getting away from all that noise was the only silver lining of leaving all my friends, family and home behind. Now suddenly, I didn't even have that peace anymore, but instead... Instead I had you. And... it's been kind of alright," he chuckled a little, still running his fingers through my hair soothingly, almost wiping all my problems away with the motion.
"...Just alright?" I grumbled, wiping a stray tear from my face. He paused his ministrations for a moment, as if surprised at my somewhat cheeky tone.
"You're really gonna make me say it, huh?" He said with a teasing smile, and I gave him a deadpan, waiting look in return. "Fine. I like you, Luhan. I feel like it was pretty obvious, what with all the excuses I made to spend more time with you. But clearly you're a little thick in the-"
I stood up abruptly, taking his face into my hands and brushing my lips against his, silencing him. He was only frozen for a fraction of a second before immediately gathering me into his arms, pulling me close as he kissed me back softly.
