Just fifteen minutes to go...

"Ahem," Tao pointedly cleared his throat, glancing at me over the X-ray report in his hand. "Where we going?"

"Huh?"

He chuckled, "Judging by the way you've been staring at your watch and tapping your foot, you look you've got a date."

"Oh..." My face heated up, "It's not really a date."

"But you are meeting that patient you saw earlier?" He said with a cocked brow.

I gaped, "How did you- I mean, no. No, I'm not going out with a patient."

"Except that's not just a patient. Judging by the way you were looking at him... An ex, perhaps?"

"Would you quit psycho-analyzing me?" I huffed, starting to get a little annoyed. "He's just an old friend."

"Sure," he rolled his eyes. "Why don't you introduce me then? Since he's just an old friend, we can all go out and grab dinner together."

"Uh... Well, it's not like a terrible idea but..."

"Great! I know this great steak place..."

I groaned internally as I tuned out the rest of his monologue.

"Oh my God, Luhan, you need to try these," Tao, who was already sat rather close to my side, leaned in even closer as he held a buffalo wing to my lips.

My eyes connected with a blank-faced Yixing who sat across from us, his eyebrow twitching almost imperceptibly.

"Mm... Thanks," I muttered taking the wing from his hand as he not so subtly let his fingers linger against mine. "They're really good. Yixing, try them."

"I'll... Just wait for the steak," he said coolly, munching on a french fry instead.

"So, how long have you guys known each other?" Tao asked Yixing. We exchanged a meaningful look before he eventually answered.

"Luhan and I go way back. We have... History."

I choked on the sip of coke I just happened to be drinking at that moment, watching the knowing smirk on Yixing's face.

"Is that so? I only met Luhan like a week ago, but isn't he just the cutest?" Tao cooed, casually throwing an arm around me. Yixing's eyes following his movement, not betraying any emotion on his face.

"Trust me, I'd know."

"We hit it off the moment he joined our diagnostics team. Too bad he's only staying a month. But I suspect we'll be very close by the end of his rotation."

"It might take more than a month with Luhan. He's a hard shell to crack. Although, I'd wager I managed to crack him in record timing."

I felt Tao's arm tense slightly around me but his smile only grew. Oh my god, what is even happening right now?

"Why don't you let me in on the secret then? Our job can be so stressful sometimes, it helps to have someone close." Tao asked, pointedly scooting even closer to me.

"If there's anything I learned about Luhan, it's that you can be physically right next him but mentally and spiritually miles apart. I'd suggest you quit while you're still ahead."

I gradually recoiled into my seat, feeling like a sheep caught in between two hyenas. Although Tao was the one with his arm possessively around me, Yixing's intense gaze alone had me in a literal chokehold.

"You'd be sorely mistaken if you think me a quitter. I am majoring in one of the most competitive and difficult fields in medicine after all."

"All that knowledge, you'd think you'd at least be able to take a hint."
