As you walked down the hallway two weeks after the tea party, the dark-haired man, Levi, followed you, making sure your angelic expression wasn't a mask to take control of the Vaughn Dukedom. While he was right, it still hurt that he would think that.

Right when you sat down on a bench having finally escaped your fearful maid, you heard someone's footsteps and turned around quickly.

"[Name], I wanted to ask you something."

It was Caleb, but the look on his face showed signs of embarrassment.

"What did you want to ask me?" you questioned before realizing that you hadn't used his full name. "Oh, sorry, I had forgotten about your title." 

He had mocked you about forgetting your 'place' a week ago, and since you had called him by his future title. 

"I thank you for being here, Future Duke of Redsburg." you apologized, taking a bow, subtly rolling your eyes.

For all Grand Dukedoms, the position that is gifted to only the second son is the position of Duke. Currently, Caleb and Roman's Uncle, Uncle Jones, is the Duke of Redsburg, but soon he will try to take over Vaughn and die with no children.

He sighed, glancing down at your hanging head, gently grabbing your neck to pull you up.

You groaned, shaking him off, still bothered by him interrupting your peace.

"Get up, [Name], my parents wanted me to offer you the Duchess' jewels as a gift from Mother-"

"Now brother, that surely is not what our mother meant by 'gifting jewels to your fiancee'.'"

Roman's husky voice cut through the end of Caleb's sentence and you raised your head high enough to see Roman and their parents striding towards them.

"Caleb!" Duchess Penelope scolded, her golden eyes gleaming through her glare. "I told you to give it to her as her engagement gift!"
"Now Penelope," Duke Adrian gently answered, "I am sure that [Name] knew that it was only a gift from you and not Caleb as instantly as Levi did." He grinned at a person behind you.
"Right, Levi?"

you turned as the third male lead exposed himself from the shadows and nodded, his black eyes flashing in suspicion. The mere fact that you hadn't noticed him was more shocking than the Duke and Duchess Vaughn completely switching personalities with parenting.

Duke Adrian is a cold man who shows kindness only to his family and staff, while Duchess Penelope is a sweet woman who gives kindness around like rain, but now they feel like a father who is scared of his wife and a mother who nags her children.

But really, the only thing that caught your eye were the knelt man in front of you and the glittering sapphire in his hands.
