KATIE'S POV
April 26thAt school, every conversation seems to revolve around prom. To be fair, the dance is coming up in the next month, and all everyone wants to know is who is going with who.
"Edward," Jessica teases, leaning forward onto her elbows, "are you going to do a grand promposal for Bella?"
Bella's eyes widen in horror. Despite myself, I smile. She meets my gaze and shakes her head, mouthing help me.
"I don't think we're doing prom this year," Edward answers, nudging Bella, "but if she changes her mind, I'll play it by ear."
False. Even I knew Edward would never. Bella would be mortified. "Well, what about you, Katie?" Jessica turns, bored by the lack of response. "Waiting for a senior to ask you out? Or are you going with that delicious little treat of yours?"
I know she's just teasing, but I tense. "I don't know. We haven't really talked about it," I shrug. It should bother me, but it doesn't. "I'm not great at dancing."
"If you need someone to show you some moves, Katie, I'm still available," Erik offers. I can tell that it's somewhere between a joke and a serious answer based on the laugh Edward is trying to hold in.
Shut up, I push at him, glaring daggers.
He just shakes his head, toying with the lid to Bella's lemonade. "You know, Erik, I'm pretty sure I overheard that Beth wanted to go with you."
I frown. It's not your place to tell him something like that just because you have access to everyone's minds.
His eyes raise in challenge, as if to make the point that he was trying to help me. "I heard her say something in English. She asked one of her friends if you were single."
I close my eyes, feeling a little guilty for jumping the trigger. Nobody else seems to notice, all the attention now on working Erik's confidence up to go talk to her.

In my last class of the day, I get a note calling me down to the office. I take my bag and leave class early, heading straight for the receptionist at the front desk.
When she sees me, she smiles. "Katelyn, right?"
I nod. "I got a note to come down here. Is something wrong?"
She shakes her head. "No. Your counselor wants to see you. She's right down the hall." She extends her arm, pointing toward my left. "Second office on the right."
