My eyes slowly blinked open as another day started to begin, vision's still a blurry as I turned over to see Groot sleeping soundly. Sad truth is that last night is probably when Rocket might have needed Groot most. My heart was aching as I gently get up taking off my old shirt and putting on a new one. I wasn't sure how much of this Groot understood, he is smart, but he is still just a kid. A kid I've grown to love, who thought of me as... I breathe in and let out a shaky breath. My heart hurts but I just don't know how to feel about this.
"I am Groot." Groot suddenly came up to me and hugged my leg, heh cute little guy.
"Morning Groot." I responded tickling his chin making him let out a giggle. He pulled onto my hand urging me to come out, "Alright I'm coming."
The rest of the morning was insufferable, and breakfast was only one battlefield. I haven't made eye contact with anyone all morning as I just poured myself a cup of coffee. Just in time to hear music from the speakers, I guess Rocket must be working on repairs already. I finish my coffee and walk out to the hall meeting Drax in the hall with a lot of bags.
"You're leaving me with those foxes?!" I suddenly heard machine girl yell from across. I turned my head to her glaring, "I'm not a fox! At least I'm not." I gesture to Rocket with my eyes and head.
I suddenly pause to look at him and his whole demeanor is full of sorrow. He doesn't make eye contact with me or the others as he uses the Nanobot Welder to repair the ship. The sight of him using the invention that we built together is hard to look at.
"Shoot her if she does anything suspicious," Rocket grumbles, "or if you feel like it." She looks at me, "Okay." I answered. I watch Gamora kneel in front of Groot who was about to cry.
"Hey, it'll be just a couple of days. We'll be back before Rocket and Bullet are finished with the ship." After Gamora gets up, I get ready to walk over to Groot waving goodbye until Peter stands beside me giving me that 'can we talk?' look.
I silently groan and cross my arms in when he kneels down to my level. "What?" I ask sternly.
"Do you trust him?" Peter asked. I tilt my head confused, "Rocket?"
"Ego" He clarifies.
I stayed silent, before choosing my words carefully because I wanted to make sure he knew I still care.
"You deserve a father." I finally answer honestly.
"Do you trust him?" He repeated the question as if he didn't believe me.
"If it'll make you happy."
"But do you? without my opinion?" Oh.
"He's nice but he's not exactly what I'd consider trustworthy, then again... it would be good to have someone other than us looking out for each other." I explain.
It was silent between us again before he let out a soft smile, and I couldn't help but smile back at him. Reminded me of when I was once in love with him. I followed behind Peter before stopping beside Groot's side.
"What if the Sovereign come?" Drax asked concerned.
"There's no way for them to know we're here. Let's go," Peter assured.
"I'm uncertain about parting ways."
"God you're like an old woman" I couldn't help but snicker at that.
