Garfield

"Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos," I hear Rae chanting at five in the morning. How is she even awake? It's too early. Sighing, I get up and get dressed in my civilian clothes. A pair of jeans, because apparently, according to Rae Rae, it's too cold here for shorts, and a green zip up hoodie, because why not? I open my door to see Rae meditating in the living room, levitating right next to the couch.

"Hey, Rae Rae," I say.

"Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos," she repeats, not opening her eyes. Do not bother her, Garfield Logan, I silently scold myself. Let her finish. You don't want another incident. Or do you...?

No. You want to get on Rae's good side.

"I can feel your emotions from here, Gar," Raven-Rachel, I mean, says, breaking my cycle of thoughts.

"What am I feeling then?" I ask in a challenging tone.

"Conflicted. Your...adventurous side is fighting with your common sense," she replies.

"And what exactly does my adventurous side want to do?"

"Annoy me."

"Good guess, mama. Spot on."

"Well, thanks for trying, I guess. What are you doing up so early?"

"Breakfast. Want tofu eggs?" I ask.

"Remember our conversation about what I eat and don't eat?"

"Yep, just checking."

"Okay. Thanks then."

"So, what are you doing up so early?"

"Meditating."

"I can see that. Do you get up at five every morning?"

"Yeah. Dick will be awake in a few minutes to start making breakfast for everyone."

"Including you?" I ask.

"Not hungry," she replies.

"You have to eat, Rae."

"I will later."

"You didn't eat last night either."

"No, I had some food last night."

"A single grape doesn't count as food."

"You eat it, don't you?"

"Fine. It's not enough."

"It is for me."

"A grape isn't a meal, Rae Rae."

"If I'm just going to throw it up later what's the point of eating?"

"Not dying of starvation."

"Then I still have three weeks left."

"Is this a joke to you?"

"No."

"Then take it seriously."

"I am."

"You sure?"

"Oh, you little-"

"Hey, guys, what's up?" Dick asks, opening his door.

"Nothing," Rachel blurts. He narrows his eyes-something I'm still not used to seeing.

"Is Garfield bothering you?" he asks. I gasp dramatically.

"Me? Bothering Rae? Never."

"No, it's fine," she replies, both of them ignoring me.

"Yeah, I never have once bothered Rae Rae in my life," I say.

"You sure? We wouldn't want another...incident," he tells her, ignoring me again.

"I've killed eight people," I deadpan. Nope, they're still ignoring me. Feeling the love here, that's for sure.
