"Where'd you get a book?" Hermione asks.

"The store," I reply flatly, not looking up. One hand is holding the book, and the other is petting Lori.

"I mean, just now. I didn't see it before," she clarifies.

"A friend enchanted my pocket for me. It can fit books and look completely normal."

"She did it just so she could always have a book," Gar says instantly, backing up my lie without hesitation. Despite fighting all the time, Garfield can back me up easily when it's against other people.

"That's cool. I've been meaning to do that," Hermione tells me, nodding.

"So...Rachel. You like to read?" Ron asks carefully. Smooth, boy, real smooth.

"I suppose so."

"Have you read any good books recently? I've been struggling to find any new good books," Hermione says.

"I mostly read muggle books. Have you read any of the classics?"

"Yes, I didn't really like Pride and Prejudice. Too boring," Hermione says.

"I know, right? Like she should've just-"

"Rachel," Dick hisses. I roll my eyes.

"I just didn't like it," I tell her.

"Yeah, Mr. Darcy seems like a jerk."

"I know."

"Didn't you end up burning that book?" Gar asks.

"Of course not. You don't burn books."

"My-"

"Gar, you should really stop talking before you make her mad," Victor advises.

"Yeah, we can't have another incident," Dick tells us, looking pointedly at me.

"Hey, he was asking for it. He went into my room."

"I'm very confused as to what the relationship is between you all," Ron says.

"We're a group of friends. Well, most of the time, anyway. Let's tell you the whole story since it's a long ride," Kori says. I roll my eyes. Did they really not think of all the ways this could go wrong?

"Uh, I really don't think that's the best-" Dick starts.

"Okay, so we were all accepted into our school called Titans, where I met friend Dick, and he was friends with Victor, and Victor was friends with Gar! Rachel was my roomate, and just as social as ever-"

"Which is absolutely not," I interrupt.

"-and so we all formed a group! It took some convincing on Rachel's part, but she eventually agreed. We all became best friends and the only ones who really argue are Rachel and Garfield," she says. I eye her in a way that says I don't think that's very accurate.

"Uh, I don't think that's true. Based on everyone else's look," Hermione tells her.

"Yeah, we should all just tell the story from our side. Gar, you start," Dick orders.

"Uh, uh, well, I guess it started when I got to the school and met Victor. He uh, became friends with Dick over here, and uh, Dick met Kori, and uh, Kori invited us to her dorm to watch movies where Rav-Rachel, I mean, was reading and then she just ignored us and had headphones in, and then just left after a few minutes, not to return that night. She really didn't like us."

"And I still don't," I say. They know I do, but I'll deny it until my deathbed. Gar rolls his eyes.

"Sure. Uh, I think Kori somehow convinced her to eat lunch, me and Victor developed a deep love for video games, Dick developed a deep love for Kori- I mean, uh, gym- and Kori loves...I don't know? Everything? We all kinda just started hanging out with each other, and uh, we still do? I guess?"

"Wow, I don't think you made it awkward enough, Gar," I tease. He flushes.

"You do it then, Rae Rae," he challenges.

"Fine."

"Okay, go," he says, like he thinks I won't.

"I am."

"Then do it."

"It started when I was sent to this really annoying boarding school, filled with annoying people who talk a lot. I had a really happy go lucky roommate who's simply too good for the rest of us mortals. She became social and kept bugging me about meeting her friends. I mean, she literally followed me around and asked fifty times an hour, and I finally agreed to sit with them at lunch, if she would stop."

"Yeah, then your dad came-" Gar starts. I kick him before he can say more. Sometimes he's just so dumb.

"Wait, her dad came? What does he have to do with anything?" Harry demands.

"Oh, nothing," I tell him.

"I don't believe you."

"I don't particularly care."

"Rae, you should be nice," Gar says.

"You should mind your own godda-" I get interrupted when the door opens. A blonde haired kid enters and looks at us.

"Has your gang of losers grown, Potter?" he taunts. Aw, he's in a denial stage of his crush. If only I was in the mood to deal with someone like him.

"Get out, blondy. I'm not in the mood to deal with people's bullshit," I snap. Ron's eyes widen.

"Do you know who I am, girl? Who my father is? I bet you're a mudblood," the boy sneers.

"I don't care about your daddy issues. Anything you got, I can beat it easily. My father's psychotic. But your daddy issues are affecting other people, and that shit needs to stop. So go see a therapist or something. Stop being such an asshole and taking it out on other people. Also, leave this damn cart alone, because if you come in here again, I'll punch you in the face," I threaten. His. Jaw. Drops. I smirk. Must have a pretty powerful father if no one's ever told him to see a therapist before.

"Who do you think you are?" he demands.

"You really don't wanna find out," I promise.

"I agree. You should go before her genes come out," Dick says, pushing the kid out and closing the door. He looks at me, and signs something in ASL.

Breath in and out. Don't go all demon on me.

I hit him with a bored look, before signing back. I'm okay.

He gives me a look that's screaming liar.

I'm fine. Everything's under control, I promise.

Fine. I'll stop for now, he signs after a moment. I roll my eyes.

"What was that?" Hermione demands.

"American Sign Language," Dick replies.

"Why were you using it?" she asks.

"Just checking up with Rachel."

"You just told Malfoy to suck it! I can't believe I just watched that!" Ron says. The familiar feeling of nausea hits me like a brick.

"I'm going to the bathroom," I tell Dick, before standing up and leaving the cart. I sprint as fast as I can to the bathroom.
