ADELINE
"Eat." Braxton says while pushing a plate of food towards me.
I looked down from where I stood at the edge of the island to see the freshly cooked pasta and vegetables. Even though I knew I should eat, I had absolutely no appetite. Talking about my past and the death of my parents during the car ride had emotionally exhausted me.
And not to mention, I was physically exhausted as well. I had just spent the past couple hours unpacking a lot of my belongings and organizing things. Braxton had mind linked some of his pack members to move all of my things into his house while we were driving back from Seattle. I had set up my clothes in the spare bedroom, Braxton's closet wasn't anywhere near big enough for my things on top of his. My living room furniture was downstairs along with boxes of things from my kitchen that still needed to be unpacked.
I let out a small sigh as my eyes focused back on the food. "Did you make this?"
"Yes."
His eyes met mine when I looked up at him after hearing his response. A faint smile formed on his lips and I felt myself copy him.
"Thank you." I said while picking up the plate and walking over to sit down at the table.
Braxton followed me with his own plate and a glass of water, which he placed on the table next to me. He then pulled a chair out to sit down to the left of me.
"My mom always made me help her make dinner when I was little. I used to hate it, but I actually really enjoy cooking now."
I picked up my fork and took a bite before responding. The mention of his mother almost took me aback. It was the first time he'd mentioned anything about himself really.
"That's nice. What's she like?"
"She's great. She actually can't wait to meet you."
I felt myself tense. I stopped twirling my fork in the pasta and looked over at him, our eyes connecting again. He was smiling, bigger this time than before.
"I've told her all about you and how I scared you away." he was obviously trying to make light of how I had left him for the past 8 days.
"Is that right?" I felt my eyes narrow slightly.
"Yep." the smile was still spread across his lips. I couldn't help but my eyes roll.
He let out a light laugh, which I ignored. I took a sip of the water and then continued to eat, forcing each bite. Braxton on the other hand had finished his food rather quickly. After setting down his fork, he leaned back in his chair and outstretched an arm, draping it over the back of my chair.
I could feel the warmth radiating from his skin that almost touched my upper back. I felt the urge to lean back into him, but decided against it. I couldn't help but think about his words earlier "If I touch you I won't stop until I'm satisfied".
I forced another bite of vegetables into my mouth and swallowed the thought away. Trying to distract myself, I decided to ask him more about his family.
"Do you have siblings?" I questioned.
"I have a younger sister. But she moved to Montana a few years ago when she found her mate."
"What about your dad?" I questioned.
"He died two years ago."
I felt my stomach drop, of course something had to have happened to him for Braxton to be alpha now. How stupid of me.
