Two days have passed.

Two whole days.

I stare up at the ceiling until I can't anymore and then find myself looking to the other side of the bed, which is cold next to me. The guilt that had seeped its way into me after dinner two nights ago still lingered. No matter how much I tried, the feeling wouldn't dissipate. It felt like a plague, making me sick.

Braxton has been completely avoiding me.
He would leave before I woke up in the morning and not come back until I was fast asleep at night. The only signs that he did in fact come home were the new dirty clothes in the laundry hamper and the faint smell of pine that clung to the bed sheets on his side.

The first day I had stayed home, waiting for him, only to be frustrated with myself when I realized that I had wasted the entire day when midnight came around and he still hadn't come back yet.

Then today, I decided to go to town, thinking that he would be mad I left the house and hunt me down again— but he didn't, which only frustrated me more. I did however notice several of his pack members following me throughout the day.

When I recognized Reece outside of one of the shops I was browsing in, I immediately went outside to ask him where Braxton was. He refused to answer my questions and I quickly found myself feeling like the whole situation was pointless.

After that, I had made my way back home where I sat in silence while I ate dinner. The irony is that I used to enjoy the silence, but now it just felt lonely and oddly suffocating in a way.

I pull the duvet up to my chin and roll over, forcing myself to face the large windows instead of Braxton's side of the bed. It's darker tonight than usual with the moon hidden behind dense clouds. The lake looks eerily still and a sense of discomfort settles over me.

I feel like I'm being watched.

My eyes frantically search the darkness outside. My heart starts to pound in my chest and I quickly usher out a protection spell under my breath.

The feeling of something brushing my feet makes me jump but I soon realize it's Ember as she makes her way up to lay next to me. She's never come into Braxton's room before, so she must be sensing whatever I am.

"It's okay." I say softly, more to myself than her.

We lay there and a few minutes pass, but the uneasiness is still consuming me. Feeling a brief moment of bravery I push back the blankets and pad towards the windows so I have a better view of the lake and forest outside.

My eyes flicker down to a patch of silver fur at the edge of the forest. A wave of relief washes over me, I must've just been sensing the wolf. Braxton had been keeping pack members patrolling the house during his absence but I don't recognize this particular wolf.

I don't waste any time before I pad downstairs and push my way out of the sliding doors and into the cold night. I'm wearing nothing but a tight long sleeve shirt and matching sleep shorts, which hardly provide any warmth as the cool breeze brushes against my skin.

Instinctively, I wrap my arms around myself as I make my way closer to the wolf at the edge of the forest. I stop when I'm only a few feet away, realizing the size of it, which looks to be about the same as Braxton's wolf.
