ADELINE
I wiped the sleep from eyes. Stretching my arms above my head I looked to my left out the window. It was still dark outside. I grabbed my phone from the side table and pressed on the screen showing the time was 4:42am.
I didn't have a plan but as of right now, I felt like my best bet would be to leave while Braxton was still sleeping. Hopefully I could get far enough away before he realizes I'm gone. The more time I have, the better. I already planned on using my invisibility spell, which would make me invisible to anyone I didn't want to see me and hide my scent. There were only two problems. One being that it took a lot of energy, so I wouldn't be able to use it for long. And two being that I had a strong feeling I wouldn't be invisible to Braxton considering my spell hadn't worked last night against him. If I could at least get out of his territory, I would be fine.
I pushed the blankets back and softly planted my feet on the floor. Trying to be as quiet as possible, I opened the door. The lights were all off in the house but my eyes were adjusted already so I could clearly see Braxton's bedroom door open. I tiptoed forward until I could see his bed. It was empty.
Maybe he didn't come home yet? This would be too easy if he wasn't home yet. I felt a glimmer of hope but pushed it away quickly. I made my way into the kitchen and the living room to make sure he wasn't just out of his room. He wasn't there either. I quickly wandered around the rest of the house and after confirming he wasn't home, I went back into the spare bedroom.
He wasn't home, but I still felt the adrenaline start to rush through me. I quickly pulled on a pair of leggings and left the tshirt on that I had slept in. I then began shoving all my clothes and belongings back into my suitcase, feeling stupid for even unpacking last night in the first place. After I finished, I tossed on my black jacket and picked up Ember.
I then said the spell, "indespectus".
I could see the faint aura surround me as the word left my lips, letting me know the spell was working. After quickly pushing my feet into my Uggs, I made my way to the front door. I opened it quietly after ensuring there weren't any wolves who would see.
My feet carried me at a quick pace down the driveway, passing my jeep. I had been tempted to use it but decided it best to stay on foot. The spell would have worked to keep the vehicle invisible, but the wolves guarding the house would have noticed it was gone in a matter of minutes.
"Perambulo" I whispered as I approached the gate. The spell made the gate separate momentarily, allowing me to walk through it.
My heart was pounding and I clutched Ember closer to my chest while also keeping a firm grip on my suitcase. I knew I couldn't make it very far walking, so I already decided on calling a cab after I walked about a mile or so. I needed to make sure none of the guarding wolves would see the cab.
After I past all of the houses in the neighborhood, and I was surrounded by nothing but trees, I pulled my phone from my jacket pocket. Realizing quickly I didn't even know where I was I pressed on the map app and pinned my location, which gave me an address.
The call to the cab company was quick. A man had answered and after he said he would be here in 10 minutes, I thanked him and hung up. My heart continued to pound loudly in my chest as I waited. The 10 minutes felt like forever. If Braxton had come back to the house already, he could follow my scent and find me within that time. That is, if the spell didn't work against him like I was assuming.
I took deep breaths to try to calm my nerves. I glanced around every once in a while to make sure there weren't any wolves. They wouldn't be able to see me, but if for some reason they were watching when I get into the cab, they would be able to see the door open. And I would appear as if it were opening by itself, which would be pretty suspicious. I wasn't sure if Braxton had told his pack members that I was a witch, but I knew from eavesdropping earlier that they were told to protect me.
