                              ADELINE

Anger seethed from my entire body. My arms were folded over my chest. The rest of my body was turned away from Braxton while I kept my gaze fixated out the window. We sat in his truck, driving somewhere.

After he had marked me, he immediately sensed my intense dissatisfaction. Yet, he didn't apologize or make any smart ass remark like how I was official his now. He just contently stared at his doing for a few moments until finally he spoke. But it was only to tell me to get dressed because we had somewhere to be.

He didn't give me anymore information and I didn't ask. Then he left the bathroom. Leaving me there. Feeling like a freshly purchased piece of property. His property.

Now only a mere 20 minutes later, here we are. I didn't have the energy to argue so I obeyed. Admittedly, submissiveness is very unlike me and it's getting under my skin that he's able to pull that out of me.

But still, I am angry at him. I told him last night I didn't want him to mark me. And he listened then. Why not now? Because I disobeyed him?

I slid my tongue across my top teeth and then felt my face turn into a scowl at my thoughts. I huffed out a breath and focused my eyes on the trees we passed. They were becoming more bare now with each passing day as winter approached.

"Adeline" Braxton's voice was soft as it echoed through the silence.

I ignored him and kept my eyes locked out the window. However, the feeling of his fingers grazing my upper thigh made me instantly recoil.

"Don't" I said, whipping my head in his direction to glare at him.

He surprisingly listened and brought his arm back to the middle console where it rested. I turned my head once again back to the window.

"Why are you mad?" his tone changed, now coaxed with irritation. How is he irritated with me in this situation?

"Are you serious?" my voice sounded like venom as I questioned back, still not looking at him.

"Because I marked you?"

"I'm so glad you have it in you to put two and two together."

I could hear his breathing increase, becoming more rapid. Clearly a reaction to my sarcasm.

"It had to be done." He stated it as if it was a fact. Like there wasn't a choice. Even though there was.

I finally turned my head in his direction, the glare still very prominent on my face. "No it didn't actually." I gritted out.

"I'm a werewolf Adeline. We mark our mates. And I waited much longer than I should have."

He only briefly glanced at me while he spoke before returning his eyes to the road. But I could distinctly see the look in his eyes. He was very angry. That makes two of us.

I tried to think of a response. But couldn't think of anything. Anger completely clouded my mind, leaving no space for words to form.

We drove for a couple more minutes in silence. I could tell Braxton felt like he won our little argument. But I had a plan.

Finally we pulled up to a house so large that I'd be tempted to refer to it as a mansion. The exterior was made of stone and wood with large windows. A double garage with wooden doors was attached on the right side of the house and the main entrance was on the left. A paved walkway surrounded by more stone led up to the grand double wooden doors that served as the front door.

Braxton put the truck in park and then hopped out of the drivers side, not giving me anymore time to admire the house.

I quickly took the opportunity and pulled down the visor, flipping open the mirror instantly. Immediately my eyes were drawn to the fresh mark. It now took on the shape of a crescent moon, which I honestly couldn't bring myself to hate despite what it stood for. I didn't let myself waste anymore time though as I saw Braxton approaching my side of the truck.
