Ioclaw let out a bored yawn, being a Crystal Searcher had been unnecessarily boring so far. Moonsight and Wonderfur were on a small patrol with her to check the borders until there was something else for them to do. Ioclaw had been a little hesitant to agree after the battle that had gone down the day before, but went anyway. She needed something to do before she went mad.
Thankfully, shortly after they'd returned to camp, Redwing and Leopaw had returned, saying they were just fine and got away with only a few scratches. Ioclaw couldn't remember the last time she'd been that relieved, she'd made sure to be extra nice to Leopaw that night.
"Hey, look!" Wonderfur chirped, looking at the border. "Someone's crossed!"
Ioclaw looked and saw a black, white, and brown molly padding around, her head down. Ioclaw felt butterflies flutter inside her stomach.
"Let's go!" she purred, bounding forward.
"Look tough," Moonsight suggested, gently nudging her.
Ioclaw nodded and put a stern look on her face.
"Hey! What are you doing on our territory?"
The molly looked at them with wide eyes, only looking worried as Ioclaw stepped forward. As she should!
"Well?" Ioclaw snapped.
The molly remained quiet, not taking her eyes off Ioclaw. She got a staring problem or something?
"What's wrong?" Wonderfur asked. "Cat got your tongue?" She let out a small giggle, failing to look or seem serious.
"S-sorry," the molly murmured, shaking out her fur. "My name is Peril."
"We didn't ask that," Ioclaw snapped. "Why are you on our territory, and what do you want with our Guild?"
"Smell her!" Moonsight mewed. "She's from Tawny's Guild!"
Ioclaw leaned over to sniff her and drew back with a gasp. "You are!" she exclaimed. "We're taking you to Wire straight away!"
Peril took a step back, fear flashing in her eyes. "I-I'm sorry! I'll go home, I promise! I'll never come back."
Ioclaw tilted her head. Why was this cat scared of Crystal Searchers who were younger than her? Ioclaw realized that Peril's gaze was fixed on her. Why is she so scared of me?
"Come on," Moonsight growled. "Let's go."
Wonderfur ran around to take the rear. "You're our prisoner now! Cower before us!" she chirped playfully.
Peril sighed and began to follow Moonsight, who was taking the lead. Ioclaw stayed beside Peril.
As they walked, the trees were creaking above. It made Ioclaw uncomfortable.
"Woah!" Moonsight cried, hurrying to get back. A loud crash sounded from ahead. When Ioclaw looked, she saw a huge branch blocking their path.
"Nearly landed on me," Moonsight mewed, drawing a paw over her ear.
Wonderfur's fur bristled when she saw what had happened. "Yikes," she meowed.
Peril eyed the branch. "Huh," she mumbled.
"Watch out!" Wonderfur cried.
Ioclaw looked up and saw the tree above them was falling. It was nearly on her when teeth sank into her scruff, pulling her away. When she was let go, she saw the tree crash to the ground. She let out a breath of relief, trying to get her heart to slow.
"Holy stars!" she yelped.
She whirled around to see who'd saved her. Peril stood behind her, panting. Moonsight was a distance away and Wonderfur was hurrying over. "You saved her!" she purred to Peril.
