Leo's footsteps echoed softly on the deserted streets of London as he swayingly made his way back home from the karaoke bar. The alcohol he had consumed earlier was still very much present in his system and it made every step feel wobbly and uncertain. His clouded mind was a swirl of emotions and thoughts, a chaotic mess that he had hoped to escape with the help of alcohol. Did he feel guilty for just ditching his friends? Not really. He didn't care much. They wouldn't suffer without his presence. If anything, they'd be more at ease without having to look after one more drunk person.
As he approached the dimly lit park he usually walked through to get home, the quiet of the night was broken by the soft rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze. The park was a tranquil oasis amid the bustling city, a place where the noise and chaos of urban life gave way to a serene natural refuge. Moonlight filtered through the canopy of trees, casting dappled shadows on the ground and lending a dreamlike quality to the surroundings. A winding stone path led through the heart of the park, bordered by neatly trimmed hedges and flowerbeds that stood in quiet bloom. Leo would often come here to smoke if he was by himself. It was calm. Serene. It allowed him to be alone with his thoughts for a while. Nobody ever disturbed him here. He'd always be tucked away on his favourite bench that was hidden by a hedge.
A small pond glistened in the moonlight, its surface reflecting the twinkling stars above. Surrounding the pond, patches of lush grass served as inviting spots for stargazers and late-night wanderers. Amid the verdant foliage, a few strategically placed lampposts provided pools of warm, golden light, adding to the park's ethereal beauty. It was a place where city-dwellers could escape from the demands of daily life, immerse themselves in nature, or find moments of quiet contemplation beneath the moon's watchful gaze. Leo loved this park so damn much.
Suddenly, his bleary eyes caught sight of a familiar stranger. It was the guy from the bar. It was the one who had caused him to spill his drink on himself earlier. The one that had just stared at him. The one that had just walked away without an apology. The mysterious figure was sitting alone on a park bench. Not just any park bench though. It was Leo's favourite bench. The one that was nicely tucked away from prying eyes. All the more reason to hate this guy.
The stranger was leisurely puffing on what seemed to be a rolled-up joint, the pungent scent of marijuana lingering in the air. Leo's fingers itched for the joint. A crunch from underneath Leo's foot is what caused the dark haired boy to snap his head up. Their eyes met and there was an awkward pause as recognition flickered in both their gazes. The stranger's enigmatic aura was still intact and Leo couldn't help but feel the allure of his dark presence once again.
Leo's longing for escape and the allure of the moment fuelled the impulsive decision he made next. Slowly, he approached the mysterious stranger and hesitated for a moment before finally asking, "spare a drag?" His voice was slurred yet calm.
The stranger's eyes held a hint of curiosity. For a long moment, he continued to smoke in silence, considering Leo's request. His eyes flickered across Leo's face and his outfit. The raven haired boy felt weird as he allowed the boy in front of him to assess him. Then, to Leo's delight, the stranger nodded slightly, offering the joint to Leo. "Sure," he replied.
Leo was surprised at his voice. It was deep. Deeper than anyone he had ever heard. His voice was also gravelly, the words slow and measured. Leo took the joint with a grateful smile and placed it between his lips. He inhaled deeply, letting the intoxicating effects of the marijuana mix with the alcohol already coursing through his veins. The sensation was almost immediate, washing over him like a soothing wave, momentarily calming his inner turmoil and helping to drown out his chaotic thoughts. He leaned his head back and exhaled slowly, watching the smoke cloud upwards to the sky, savoring the moment of respite.
