Leo and Dante strolled side by side, the crisp November air fluttering around them. Both of them had their hands shoved into their pockets and both of them were happy to be silent.
As Leo and Dante walked side by side, the quietness of the night wrapped around them, making the world seem smaller and more intimate. The streetlights cast long shadows across the pavement, and the only sound was the soft crunch of their footsteps on the gravel. The silence between them wasn't uncomfortable, but rather a shared moment of peace after the night's events.
Leo glanced over at Dante, who seemed more relaxed now, his usual guarded expression softened by the evening's events and maybe even the remnants of the high he had mentioned earlier. Leo felt a warmth spread through him, a sense of contentment that he hadn't realised he was missing.
"Thanks for coming tonight," Leo finally said, his voice low but sincere. "I know it wasn't really your thing."
Dante shrugged, his gaze fixed ahead as they continued walking. "It wasn't so bad," he replied, his tone casual but with a hint of something more. "Your friends are... interesting."
Leo chuckled softly. "That's one way to put it. They're a handful, but they're good people."
"I can tell," Dante murmured, his eyes flickering over to Leo. "They care about you."
Leo's heart skipped a beat at the comment, and he looked down at the ground, a small smile tugging at his lips. "Yeah, I guess they do. Even if they like to make my life difficult."
Dante smirked, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly. "They only do it because they know you can take it."
Leo nodded, feeling a strange sense of pride at Dante's words. The conversation lapsed back into a comfortable silence, and Leo found himself enjoying just being in Dante's presence. There was something about the other boy that made him feel grounded, even when his life seemed chaotic and overwhelming.
"Park?" Dante suddenly asked.
"Hmm?" Leo frowned.
"You wanna smoke in the park or on campus?" Dante asked him.
"Depends where your usual spot is on campus," Leo replied.
"I'll show you," Dante said with a shrug.
Then it was settled. The pair continued to walk in comfortable silence, occasionally glancing at each other from the corner of their eyes.
As they neared the edge of campus, Dante slowed his pace, and Leo followed suit. "This way," the taller boy said with a nod of his head towards a dark corner. It was quite close to Dante's accommodation which probably made it convenient for him.
The pair decided to stand flush against a wall whilst Dante reached into his pocket and pulled out an already rolled joint and a lighter. Leo watched him spark it and place the end in between his lips. The smoke curled upwards and Leo watched silently as Dante took a few small drags, craning his neck upwards to let the smoke out of his mouth. Damon was right; Dante definitely was handsome.
Leo swallowed thickly at the thought and tried to push it away, but then Dante looked over at him and their eyes met. The dark clothed boy handed Leo the blunt. Their fingers brushed against each other and it physically caused Leo to flinch, so much so, that the blunt fell from his fingers and landed on the floor, the ash spreading across the ground.
"Jeez," Dante muttered, bending down to collect it. "This is precious. Watch it."
"Sorry," Leo muttered, grabbing the blunt again and taking a few very long, and much needed puffs of the marijuana. He inhaled, held, and exhaled. Almost instantly, he felt relief. Even though the drug would take a few moments to take effect, Leo was simply happy that he was getting high. It had been a while. He needed to let loose.
