Leo's usual Sunday morning routine was for him to stay in bed for as long as possible. This Sunday however, began with the obnoxious sound of his bedroom door being thrown open, followed by the intrusion of two familiar but furious voices. His bleary eyes shot open and he struggled to make sense of the commotion as his pounding headache reminded him of the previous night's escapade.
"Aaron, seriously, calm down," he heard Sophie's voice say, trying to mediate the awkward situation.
The disheveled figure of Aaron stood at the doorway, his face contorted with anger. "Calm down? Sophie, he didn't even text us! We had no idea where he was and I was worried sick!" Aaron's replied, his voice a mix of concern and frustration.
"I know but he's here now. Stop acting like you're his mother," Sophie replied.
"Somebody has to!" Aaron huffed.
Leo groaned lightly, shielding his eyes from the sudden intrusion of daylight. "Guys, could you not yell so early in the morning? My head is fucking splitting."
Sophie, her anger fading into relief upon seeing Leo in one piece, rushed over to his bed and sat down on the edge. She shoved his shoulder, ignoring his plea for calmness. "Leo, you scared the living daylights out of us last night. You left the bar without a word and we had no idea where the hell you went."
Rubbing his temples, Leo struggled to piece together the previous night's events. "I... I must have left the bar and ended up at the park," he mumbled, his voice a mix of exhaustion and embarrassment.
Aaron, still visibly annoyed, folded his arms across his chest. His blue eyes stared intently at his best friend. "Without telling anyone? What if something had happened to you? We were looking all over for you!"
Leo sat up slowly, his throbbing head reminding him of the excesses of the night. "I didn't expect to stay out so late. I met someone at the park and we just... talked."
Sophie's curiosity got the better of her irritation and she stared at him. "Met someone? Who?"
"You ditched us to go bang some chick?" Aaron asked with a scoff.
Sophie furrowed her eyebrows. "Wait, you got laid last night?" she asked, trying to keep her voice levelled. Unfortunately though, Leo could sense the underlying accusation in her tone, Thankfully however, Aaron didn't catch on to it.
"No," he said quickly. "Jesus. I'm not that much of a sleaze bag."
"Could have fooled me," Aaron muttered.
Leo sighed and ran a hand through his messy hair. "No, it wasn't like that. I just met this random guy. We had a smoke and got talking. Nothing more, nothing less. I swear."
Sophie's frustration seemed to subside a bit as she considered his explanation. "Well, you could have at least sent a text or something. We were really worried about you."
Aaron, still not entirely convinced, grumbled, "Yeah, man, you should have let us know you were okay. It was a dick move. Damon was worried sick too."
Leo felt guilty for causing them so much concern and grief but when he heard that Damon was worried too, his face dropped. He felt even worse. He didn't want to cause his new smaller friend any problems. He heaved a sigh. Maybe his friends actually did care about him after all. He smiled weakly, glancing between his two housemates. "I'm sorry. It was thoughtless of me. It won't happen again."
Sophie reached out and patted his shoulder, offering a small smile. "Just don't scare us like that again, okay?"
Aaron finally uncrossed his arms, showing a hint of relief beneath the lingering annoyance. He nodded and let out a sigh. "Yeah, Leo. We're here to watch your back, not to yell at you on a Sunday morning."
