Everyone has secrets. No one can truly dig out the truth in anyone, especially the ones that happen behind closed doors, out of view from everyone. After all, two can keep a secret...when one of them is dead...
"Don't you think this is weird? Jonas JUST walked out, and we didn't see this here before! Maybe this card has links to other organisations around here?" Aemilia speculated.
Sofia stared at the card carefully and did not speak.
"Sofia? Can you hear me?"
She looked at Aemilia.
"If it was really Jonas who lost this card, he would probably come back looking for it. Maybe if you wait here a little longer, he could very well be a suspect, and we can track him down, because clearly he wouldn't be carrying a random deck of playing cards just like that."
She crouched down and motioned for Aemilia to do the same.
"I don't think any old playing card would be out here just like that. It could be a sort of code of communication? By my guess, random playing cards would not be just littered out on the streets like that without the rest of its companions, the other face cards."
Sofia looked closer. "See this? This Queen of diamonds is carrying a knife on one end, and a gun on the other. This could be a clue."
"Well, seems like this is not used for a game of cards, then. Judging from that gun and knife, I can make a pretty good guess at where this is going."
"I think it would be great to use as evidence, you know, if we manage to find what is this connected to. I have a feeling it would reveal itself soon..." Sofia took out a tissue and carefully picked the card off the floor, folded the card into the tissue, avoiding all direct contact, and placed it into her pocket.
"Anyway," Sofia said, "you can continue to stay here and keep watch if you want. If you find anything, tell me, will ya? I have some business I need to attend to. It looks like we are only ones that could possibly find Jonas suspicious."
Aemilia stopped her from leaving. "But first of all, we must not tell this to anyone, because if this turns out to be false, we might be arrested for giving false speculation or information." Sofia paused slightly, then slowly started walking again. "I will not say anything, but I will have to secure the card in a safe place in case anyone comes looking for it."
Meanwhile
Meanwhile on the other side of town, things were getting a bit heated between a conversation that turned into an argument. Two figures, one slightly stout and one tall, were slowly walking down the pavement while discussing something.
"I told you, we need all the help we can get to crack down this case! A lady murdered in their own shop is no joke! One of our officers were already killed in that school, it's only a matter of time before they strike again!" He appeared agitated.
"Yes yes, but be patient, we have yet to find any leads on this case, I suggest we scout the perimeters of the crime scene, then make a suitable conclusion. Don't forget, this officer was killed during investigations and questioning, but it does not mean that the killers are the same."
"Well no matter, they can't escape the law for long, anyway. That woman's family is distraught and they want the criminal dead. We have to crack the case before her family goes all bent on revenge and more bloodshed happens."
"I wonder...it's possible that the killers are both teenagers, maybe from stress? But the first case was definitely stealing."
"Well, if we can't figure it out by Wednesday, boss is gonna kill us. Oh look!" The stout man peered at his watch. "It's Tuesday! We have exactly another 18 hours to figure out something. Deadline is tight. I suggest we get moving before WE are dead."
