Chapter 6: Karai

Chapter 6: Karai

We all look from Master Splinter to Leo and then back to Master Splinter. 

"Let me get this straight, Karai is not Shredder's daughter?" Donnie asks Master Splinter. 

"No." Splinter says. "It is difficult, but it is time you all knew the truth. The child I thought I lost in the fire, Miwa... is Karai- My daughter. Fury became flame, and flame darkened the world with smoke. And in that darkness, Shredder stole Miwa away. I thought she had perished, but she was raised by Shredder as his daughter and trained as a deadly Foot assassin."

"This is some kind of joke, right, Sensei?" Raph asks, rubbing his temples as his digests the information provided to himself, his brothers, April, and I.

"Karai's our sister!?" Mikey asks, standing up with shock. He sits back down, this time on the couch beside his brother. "Woaah."

"Sensei, she's still our enemy.. I mean, she was raised by the Shredder!" Raph begins his little protest. 

"Yeah, how can we ever trust her?" Donnie asks. "I mean, Leo told her who she really was and she managed to kidnap April and drag you out of the sewers." 

After a moment of silence, Master Splinter stands up, "There is good in her. I know this. But truth must be told, and it too will be an earthquake."

"So we will stay vigilant." I nod. "Karai has to make her own choices... Unfortunately." 

Splinter nods, stroking his goatee in mere concentration. After a moment he looks to Donnie, "Is there something you want to add, Donatello?"

We all shift our gaze to the infamous purple masked turtle who had his mouth open with hesitation. He was holding a piece of paper in his hands and had a shocked look on his face. He looked over at April and then back to Splinter. 

"This... Doesn't seem at all possible." He mutters, reading the papers over once more before looking up and back at April.

"What is it? Is there something wrong?" April asks with worry. 

"Based on all the evidence I've clued from the lab, your cellular makeup is actually a morph-genetic blend of human and Kraang DNA."

"Wait... Are you saying that I'm...?" April asks, standing up now.

"You're not entirely human, April. That's why you have psychic powers. In fact, you're a half human, half alien-mutant." Donnie concludes, hiding a small smile. I feel myself frowning a bit, but I couldn't quite put a finger onto why.  

"A mutant?!" Leo, Raph, April, and I all shout at the same time. 

"Oh yeah!!" Mikey jumps up, punching the air before hugging April, "Welcome to the family!"

"My best friend is a mutant, too." I smile, hugging her as well. "Who would've thunk?"

"I guess that explains what we felt and saw in TCRI." Raph smirks, patting her shoulder.

Splinter, unamused or surprised at all speaks, "I'm going to go meditate in the dojo. Training in an hour." He pauses, "All of you. Including you, April O'Neil."

April's eyes widen as she nods. She's trained with Master Splinter before, but this time it was different. 

"Hai sensei," The 6 of us say in unison before continuing our little mutant celebratory discovery. 

"I'm going to order us some pizza!!" Mikey shouts excitedly, running out of the lair with his hands behind his back as though he were on a mission. 

The TV crackles to life as Space Heros starts with their latest episode. Leo lays back on the couch at the same time Raph gets up with Spike on his shoulder. Raph grumbles something about getting a leaf for his pet turtle before leaving the room.
