“I have an important message to deliver to all the cute people all over the world. If you're out there and you're cute, maybe you're beautiful. I just want to tell you somethin' — there's more of us UGLY MOTHERFUCKERS than you are, hey-y, so watch out.”
― Frank Zappa

Noah and I spent the next couple of months just being together. It was a nice thing to feel like a normal teenage couple. Lexi and Alex started officially dating again. Both of them were nervous and Lexi even approached me to help her prepare for their first date.

I went to two of mom's scans in that time. We found out she was farther along that the doctors initially believed. At the beginning of April we found out she was having a girl. Daddy was ecstatic. I was treated because I was the one who said a girl. It was easy enough to guess.

Ricky was transferred to one of my classes, he was failing and they needed to bring him down a grade. It was nice to have someone in my class that talked to me. I was still the leper of the school, much to Noah's annoyance.

We were all sitting in the cafeteria in early May when Chris walked in. Noah had me sitting on his lap and I was resting my head against his shoulder. Alex's arm was slung around Lexi's shoulder, she was making googly eyes at him.

When Chris approached his mouth was pressed in a tight line. “Can I talk to you for a minute? In private.” His voice was low and he would not meet my eye. Kissing Noah, I stood and followed him out of the cafeteria down the corridor and into his office.

“Sit down son. We have to talk.” I took the seat in front of his desk. My mind was racing, curious, wondering what was wrong with him. He was in such a good mood over the last few months, we had gotten incredibly close.

“Everything okay, dad?” I had started to call him dad on a regular basis. He and daddy would argue over who dealt with the issues or who to blame when I was always hungry. I would scowl at them both until they paid fifty, fifty.

“Not really, I have some news. Not exactly good news, but news that I have to tell you because you might hate me if I don't warn you.” He wiped the sweat off his brown and frowned. “Hell, you might hate me after this anyway.”

What the hell? Is he having a fucking mid-life crisis. He has to be fucking kidding. Why would I ever hate him?

“I'm going to stop you there and call bullshit. Because, that is complete utter bullshit, I would never, every hate you. So you can man up and tell me what's bothering you. It's not like we're strangers now.” I kept eye contact in hopes that he would relax.

“You're a good boy, and I honestly don't know what I've done to deserve a son like you. The past few months have been the best time of my life. I love you, Jesse. You have made my life so much better. In more ways than one.” He smiled.

“You've helped me a lot too. I never thought I'd have one dad, but because you and daddy are such good men, I have two. It's incredible and I wouldn't change anything for the world. So whatever it is, please tell me. I love you too, dad.”

He shifted uncomfortably in the chair, his eyes roaming around the room until they finally settled on a photo of him in his youth. He looked even more like me back then, his hair was longer and he was skinnier.

I finally look like someone.

“I got a call from my mother this morning. She heard from Stephanie's parents last week and they told her about you. About you being my son. I haven't spoken to my family in years, they cannot accept the fact I'm gay.”
