Chapter Ten: Beneath The Surface

Anne, Benjamin and Alex managed to get the two key cards needed to access the restricted area in the airship. They also learned about where Croc was hiding after the events of the Arkham Island Takeover. Waylon escaped the asylum and made it to the lighthouse where he has been killing civilians and bringing their remains to the lighthouse to feast on them. However one month later, he was captured by Ironheights.

The trio made it back to the airship as they continued moving through the ship until they made it to the restricted area as they spoke to each other.

Benjamin: Here we go.

Anne: Let's hope we can get our answers.

They placed the keycards on the panels as the door was opened and the team continued moving forward until they saw large claw marks on the wall along with more dead guards.

The team continued walking forward until they made it to a laboratory as the team were confused and began looking around.

Benjamin: I didn't know they have a laboratory here.

Alex: Let's look around. Maybe we can get our answers on what's going on here.

Anne: Right.

The trio began looking around until they noticed a large cell that was destroyed as Anne said something.

Anne: Looks like Croc was imprisoned here.

The team continued looking around until they saw a video log and played the video. There was static emitting from the video as it showed Warden Ranken speaking on the video.

Ranken: We tracked the subject back to it's lair underneath the lighthouse. It suffered minor wounds during capture. Fortunately wounds did not impend immediate testing. The creature's regenerative healing factor is quite remarkable.

The video showed Croc strapped to a chair as a large circular saw began cutting his arm as Waylon let out a painful scream and began crying for help.

Ranken: Superficial lesions heal almost immediately and the subject's hand is now fully regrown post amputation. Further surgeries have been scheduled to see if tissue growth can be accelerated.

The video showed some prisoners strapped to a table and the scientists began experimenting on them as their screams can be heard and Ranken continued talking.

Ranken: Human trials are underway, stabilizing the recombination DNA is our next step. We have lost of work ahead of us.

The video showed Croc glaring at the warden as Ranken said something.

Ranken: The subject's physiology is altering, possibly an adaptive response to trauma. Sedatives are becoming less effective. Termination, while undesirable must be consdiered.

The video ended as the trio were shocked by what they saw and now know the truth.

Alex: The warden has been experimenting on Croc trying to weaponize his condition.

Anne: Croc wants payback. Can't say I blame him.

Benjamin: I agree on that. We should just let him eat the warden.

Anne: True but the law will punish him.

The trio nodded as they moved through the laboratory and saw Croc strapped the warden in a large chair as other prisoners were cheering for him.

The team saw a grate along with a ventilation system leading them to the courtyard as they spoke to each other.

Anne: We need to get to the courtyard. Me and Benjamin will go through the vents.
