Colourful, twinkling lights line every shop window and street lined trees. Festive reefs on every door, and carollers singing brightly bringing smiles to everyone who passes faces. Snowmen with stick arms and various designed scarfs stand happily with stone made smiles.
Walking hand in hand with Freya down the snowy New York high street, we sip delicious, steamy hot chocolate while scouring the stores.
"I can't believe we're spending Christmas in new freaking york."
I chuckle, and pinch her rosy cheek. "Believe it, baby. It's already happening."
This isn't the first time in the three days we've been here that Freya has expressed how unbelievable this holiday season is. And she's so fucking right- we're just excited about different things. For me; it's being with her. Getting to know her father, and learn things about his daughter she would never tell me herself.
She snuggles in closer, and wraps a padded arm around my waist when she looks up, those chocolate brown eyes glitter under the darkening sky.
"Have I ever told you how amazing you are?"
"You could always tell me again."
She playfully rolls her eyes and mutters how big my ego is before admitting how amazing I am.
"So, what's the plans for tonight?" She asks, hopeful and innocently. Fuck, she's so cute. "Cookie decorating? Eggnog and cupcakes? Singing Christmas songs around a piano in front of a fire?"
I tug her closer. "First of all, we cookie decorated last night, you addict, and secondly, it's another surprise."
"Another?" Her eyes bug out, making me laugh. "Is this like a thing of yours?"
"I prefer to call it a strength in my character profile."
"Depends whether the person likes surprises or not."
"Smart ass."
Her giggles fills the noisy air, and warms me up despite the frosty bite surrounding us.
"But you're in it for the long haul so I suggest getting used to it, Teach."
She smirks up at me. "I can do that."
And that right there is how I know falling for this girl was the best thing that I ever did right.
I spent the next two hours getting dragged from little stall of hand made gifts to other little stalls selling baked goods where I had a gingerbread cupcake shoved in my mouth - although, not complaining - and of course, we decided to go ice skating, in that, I learned Freya is like Bambi on ice.
Giving Freya everything this Christmas was my main goal. I wanted her to experience what New York during the holidays had to offer, I wanted her to be surrounded by me, and our families, I wanted to show her just how fucking well we fit, how big and bright our future together will be if only she sticks with me.
