The sun shimmered, sending off a graceful light on the boy's face.  His eyes eventually opening, the sparkle within them.

He'd sat up, rubbing the sleepy away.  " nng .. " He'd grumble, " So sleepy.. " He groaned, standing up from the comfort of his bed.  Stretching.

He heard footsteps, was Father awake?

The boy scrambled to get ready, a feeling of fear washed over him.  He struggled to get the beige sweater on when the man walked in the room.

"Cody. Why the hell aren't you at school yet." Father yelled at poor Cody.

"Sorry, I overslept."

"Of course you did, for fuck's sake Cody! Why can't you do anything right?!" Father groaned, walking away.

"Sorry." Cody whispered, continuing to get dressed.

He looked at himself in the mirror.

He was pale, weirdly thin as well. The eye-bags under his eyes were visible, they had been there since he turned 9.

Cody sighed, brushing his messy hair. He needed to look somewhat presentable.

Once he was done, he went to brush his teeth. Humming a song quietly.

Eventually, he was done. He was ready for the day. Did he really want to go to school?

He really didn't want to face the other kids again.

He had no choice. Cody groaned, grabbing his heavy bag, leaving his room. He didn't have a door, it was just a frame. Father took it off one day, and never put it back on.

On his way to school, Cody decided to stop by the store real quick. He wanted to get himself something to snack on throughout the day. He didn't eat breakfast, nor did he eat lunch. But he did need something in his stomach.

He looked around the isles, looking for his favorite chocolate. Although, he doesn't exactly like chocolate all too much, he may be a sweet tooth, but chocolate is rather ... bitter to him. He doesn't understand how anyone can like that abomination. He'll eat it still, but he doesn't like it.

Cody eventually found the chocolate he was looking for, so he grabbed two bars. As usual. He also grabbed something to drink, he doesn't like using the fountains at the school. They taste like a fucking sewer.

Eventually, Cody payed for the items he grabbed, leaving the store in a hurry. He had 10 minutes to get to the school, and it takes 7 to run there.

Cody started to run, he wasn't very fast, but he eventually made it there, and on time too.

He had about 2 minutes left to spare, so he sat down in the lounge, listening in on the other kids' conversations, dozing off every few seconds.

Soon, the bell rang. Cody immediately jumped, gasping. He grabbed his bag, and headed off to his first class.

His first class was History. He didn't necessarily like history, but he's doing decent in it. He had a B- , which was okay in his books.

During the class, he had to write a paragraph over the story they read the week before, which, Cody never even paid attention to that story.

He stared at his blank paper, blinking every few times.

' This is stupid. ' Cody thought to himself, scratching his cheek.

Soon, the class bell rang. Off to second hour.

His second hour was an elective, art. Cody loved art, he shared this hour with one of his .. 'friends'. Her name was Gwen, Cody knew for a fact she talked bad of him behind his back, but she was still his friend.

And his only friend.

Cody sighed, heading to the art room. He silently sat at the table he shared with Gwen and another girl. Waiting.

Eventually, Gwen walked in, sitting besides him.

" Hey, Cody. You seem rather tired, you know? " Gwen mentioned.

Cody sighed, resting his head.

" I am. " He'd reply, looking at the girl.

Gwen sighed as well, looking off to the side, " Cody, you should probably sleep a bit then, I'm sure Ms. Karol wouldn't mind. " She suggested, smiling somewhat.

" Maybe. But, I shouldn't. " Cody mumbled, closing his eyes somewhat.

" Did something happen? " Gwen asked.

Did something happen? Cody was unsure. He didn't know why he was so tired suddenly.

" No, I don't think. "

" You're normally bouncing off the walls, so I just wanted to be sure. " Gwen mumbled, patting Cody's back.

Cody liked Gwen, she was nice to him, sometimes. He liked the way she smelled of lavender, the way she'd smile, the way she'd laugh. Cody just enjoyed being around her, but didn't necessarily have a crush on her.

He only found comfort in the things she'd do.

" Thanks for checking on me, Gwen. You're honestly a really good friend. " Cody'd mumble.

" Of course, dude. You're like a little brother to me, I just wanted to make sure you were fine. " Gwen smiled.

Cody returned the smile, it was a small one though. Genuine.

" Oh, hey, Gwen? Did you and Trent ever get together? " Cody asked, lifting his head up.

" Mm. No, no.. He kind of reacted weirdly when I mentioned it, and he just... freaked out? I dunno, but the guy went hella weird, and then stopped trying to talk with me. " Gwen mumbled.

" Oh, damn. Sorry to hear that, but there's always someone else. Like mee~" Cody joked, smiling.

Gwen lightly punched his shoulder. "There's the Cody I know!" She'd laugh.

Soon, class started, interrupting our conversation.

How'd they manage to talk so much in 5 minutes?

The school day slowly came to an end, and Cody never wanted to leave the school. He didn't want to go home yet. He was worried his dad was home, waiting for him.

Cody sighed, he knew he couldn't avoid home forever though.

Eventually, he headed home. Sometimes, he'd wish a car would just run him over on his way home. But, then who would feed the stray cats? Who would chat with Gwen?

Not saying that Gwen didn't have friends, she for sure does, but .. Never mind.

Cody eventually made it up the steps to his house, noticing the black fur sleeping besides the food bowl.

" Ah.. You're here early, aren't you? " Cody smiled, petting the ball of fur.

" One second, Fin, I'll get you your food. " Cody whispered to the cat, smiling a bit more.

He entered the house, the smell of alcohol was overpowering.

Cody made his way to his bedroom, setting down his bag on the floor, next to a pile of clothes he'd left.

Sighing, he grabbed the cat food he left underneath his bed, heading back to where the fur ball laid.

Cody poured the food into Fin's bowl, watching as the cat woke up, and immediately began eating.

" I'm glad you at least like me, Fin. " Cody smiled, petting the fluffy cat.

Fin only responded by munching on his food.

Cody just laughed, smiling.

Something moved around near his yard, Cody looked to see what it was.

His blue eyes met with darker eyes. Staring directly at him. It made Cody somewhat uncomfortable, all he could do was wave. The moment he did, the other had immediately ran off, leaving Cody even more confused.
