"When were you gonna tell them?"
Macaque jumped slightly as he raised a brow, looking at the Monkey King with a quizzical look. "What do you mean tell them? Tell them what?" he asked in confusion, watching the other simian's smug smile.
"That you obviously wrote the letters, I bet you knew what was in the last one too!" Wukong said happily, however, Macaque just stood there in slight disbelief. It had already been an hour or so since Mei and MK left, and they were still on this topic?
"You thought I had written those letters?" Macaque asked, a little taken aback by the accusation. The Monkey King had never asked him this before so why now? Why was he so confident that he had written those letters? "Wukong, I never wrote any of those letters."
A pregnant silence stood between them after that, the Great Sage's smug smirk falling as he fell into thought, it was now his turn to be confused. He thought it was obvious that Macaque was the writer of the letters but after that confession he wasn't quite sure. Of course, it could be Macaque lying again but surely it wasn't, besides, he knew the indications of when Macaque lied, they were all missing.
"But... If you didn't write the letters, who did?" Wukong asked, a little disheartened. "After all this time I thought I finally had the mystery solved but it just brought up more questions!" he whined, his tail flicking in annoyance before he was brought into a small embrace, Macaque patting his back gently.
"Hey, even though I wasn't the original writer of the letters they brought us closer together, remember? That means something, right? They led to us staying up till stupid times in the morning talking. They made me actually tolerate you," he teased.
"Hey!" Wukong said, taking mock offence before sighing and nodding softly. "Yeah... Yeah they did good... They gave me your stupid face!"
"Hey! That's it!" Macaque said before pushing Wukong off him, the Great Sage then grabbed onto the other's shirt, both of them toppling into a laughing pile on the floor as they struggled to keep their balance.
"Real smooth, Macaque," Wukong teased.
"Oh shut up, Peaches..."
Wukong then settled back, putting his hands under his head as he rested on his arms. He was content here. But the question still lingered on his mind. "Do you ever think we'll find out who the author of the letters was?"
"I don't know," Macaque said honestly, shrugging as he moved to entwine their tails together. "But what I do know? Is that even if we find the author of the letters, it will not stop me from fighting for you..."
"Cheesy bastard."
"Says you....
It was almost two hours after they agreed to meet, oh when they got to the fortress they were dead meat. Even barbequed meat depending on how Red Son was feeling.
"Come on! We're nearly there!" Mei said quickly before reaching the large entrance to the fortress, looking back at MK who was severely out of breath. She didn't blame him, instead of taking a vehicle like any sensible person would do to get out this far, MK had instead picked flight, foolishly thinking his seventy-two transformations would be faster than Mei's bike. It definitely was not.
As the man landed and changed back he held his stomach tightly, hunched over as he tried to take in at least one full, burning breath before continuing. "Maybe he forgot and we're fine and we should be mad at him?" MK suggested hopefully, looking about ready to drop dead as he wheezed.
"After seeing his scheduled calendar? The likeliness of that is about as much as me being able to win a ping pong match against your dad," Mei sighed, walking with MK slowly up to the large doors and knocking quietly, praying the fire demon wouldn't hear and they could turn back with a 'You didn't hear us!' excuse. However, as soon as she knocked the door burst open with a fiery warm air hitting the both of them, singeing their clothes as the boy they were meant to meet earlier stood in front of them, seemingly ready for a fight.
