returning to school after a weekend of recuperating from the full moon was a sort of surreal feeling, but not to a major extent. he'd had to do it back in the town where he'd met joseph and jasmine, along with the other children of the moon, but the school and businesses there usually gave more than just a day or two off if it had been particularly rough for some people.

the community there had been extremely accepting of alex and ostana. if they hadn't been in the situation they were in, they probably would have stayed. but, unfortunately, some things just aren't meant to happen.

he and ostana had made up over the weekend while watching whatever was interesting that was on television. he'd even gotten the woman to watch episodes from his favorite superhero shows, and the first transformers film.

she wasn't into that stuff as much. for some reason, she liked shows such as ncis, even though they both had seen enough gore in real life to think it would turn someone off from shows like that.

making it to his lunch table after the first couple classes, alex was finally losing some of his nerves. his temperament had gone back to normal for the most part, but he still felt a bit antsy being around so many people. he flinched as the volume of the lunchroom continued to increase the more students filed in, but tried his best to ignore it. even after the full moon his senses were still dialed up a bit, and would be for the remainder of the week, so he'd have to get used to it.

hailey and meredith were already sitting down with their lunches when he took his seat. obviously he'd just walked in on some teasing, because hailey was smirking at the redhead as she tossed a fry at her, and meredith rolled her eyes at the shorter girl before turning her attention to alex.

"hey, al," she greets, smiling softly at him, and he returns it with a meeker version of his own. "feeling better after last week? you were kinda off, we were a bit concerned."

a surge of warmth swelled in his chest at her words, and he nods reassuringly as his smile turns less meek and more appreciative.

"yeah, i'm fine. ostana and i had a bit of an argument that lasted a couple days, and neither of us was feeling the best, but we're fine now. thanks for asking, mer."

she and hailey mirror his smile with kind ones of their own, before their attention redirects to the currently bickering pair of chris and raine. the boy was obviously mocking something she'd said, as was normal, and she was glaring at him as she slammed her tray on the table.

"shut it, you idiot! you have no idea what you're talking about, so shut up!"

it was then that alex took notice of her slightly darkened cheeks, and he shared a confused but intrigued look with the other two girls as they all looked between the pair.

"what're you two on about?" hailey asks, leaning her chin on her fist and examining her two friends with a curious smile. raine, however, doesn't look ready to indulge her, and sends the quilete girl a frown before scoffing and glaring at chris.

"nothing, hailey, so just ignore christopher and his antics."

"ooh, the full name," jessica comments as she walks by, shrieking in outrage as her cousin whacks her in the shoulder. they glare at each other for a solid few seconds before the short girl turns and takes her seat next to angela, proceeding to ignore the other group of friends sat behind her.

smirking at raine after ignoring his cousin right back, chris opens his mouth to talk.

"oh, we were just talking about how raine ran into nadie seawright yesterday, and how she embarrassed the hell out of herself while trying to ask for her number."
