Grayson Harrington needed a fresh new start. She needed a new reason to stay on planet earth that didn't involve being hunted by inter dimensional monsters or negative thoughts.
The heavy medication that the Harrington family doctor had prescribed her wasn't working anymore. The tiny white pills were failing to do their job on keeping the bad thoughts from spreading.
Grayson wasn't sure on what was right from wrong anymore. The insufferable thoughts were spreading like wildfire across her poisoned brain. The voice inside her head was getting louder and louder with each passing second.
Nobody not even her own doctor could put a name to the dripping voice making its home inside her brain. Ever since the year prior, involving the Star Court Mall incident, Grayson Harrington had been having trouble coping with the gruesome nightmares that came from seeing dead bodies.
The brunette had never liked Billy. She never once had a decent conversation with the boy that didn't end in a fight or an argument. But, seeing his mutilated dead body sprawled out in front of her definitely wasn't an easy sight. It was absolutely sickening.
Starting Hawkins high was supposed to be the 'new starting point' that everyone had talked about for Grayson. Steve had barged into her room countless of times blabbing his mouth on about how a new environment would help with everything going on inside her head.
Grayson more than anything wanted to so badly walk around with a blindfold on like everyone else. If only. If only the new environment that Hawkins high provided her would make her blind to everything happening around her. But, the brunette didn't thrive in the blindness.
Attending High School only made the changes in her mind worse. So much worse. The new environment was failing to provide her the help that she so desperately needed. Not only that but every problem that the brunette had clawing at her throat began to pile up inside her chest.
The youngest Harrington was one single tick away from blowing up and causing some real trouble that ended in death. If everything already seemed to be spiraling out of control, Max Mayfield slowly starting to distance herself from her after the Byers and El moved to California was the total icing on the cake.
Grayson repeatedly sat alone waiting for a phone call that was never going to happen. She waited every day and night for the redhead to come to her, but, that call for help never came. The stress and anxiety eating away at her well being got the brunette involved with the wrong crowd.
Grayson Harrington was no longer the same girl that would take a raging bullet for the party. She was the bullet, and she was raging on the very edge of collapsing. Hawkin's would fall apart once Grayson was done taking out her rage against the world.
On the very first day of high school, Max Mayfield, the girl that she had loved and once deeply cared for had the utter courage to break things off with her. Grayson stood alone in the middle of a busy hallway not knowing what to make of the heartbreaking situation. It was like she was stuck. Frozen in place, replaying every cruel word Max had jabbed into her sensitive heart.
Once Grayson had snapped out of her panicked state she immediately felt the whole school closing in on her, like, everyone was watching her. She needed a place to think. A place to cry. She skipped the rest of her remaining classes, sobbing in the old woods hidden behind the football field. Her only lifeline had broken things off with her. She had no reason to continue.
It only continued going downhill from there. A week later the heartache became unbearable. Grayson started acting out. She was always getting herself into some sort of trouble that didn't even seem to involve her. It had gotten to the point where Steve had to get a new house phone just to stop the threats from coming.
Skip to a month later, Grayson started going through an unusual puberty. Her height shot up drastically, almost towering over her own brother. Her limbs and bones started growing and hardening like something inside her body was taking place. There would times when Grayson wished that she should've just ended things before the whispering started. Before the whispering in her head got louder.
Now almost a year in and Grayson Harrington wasn't doing any better. Not to mention that her addiction to cigarettes had come back. She relapsed from the things she promised the party not to do and nobody was there to help her when she was at her lowest.
All Grayson Harrington wanted to do these days was run around in a stupid misfit club, hoping to distract herself from the obvious problem at hand. Max and her own mid-life crisis. Being a teenager was tough. Now imagine being a teenager having to save the world every year without catching a damn break. That would truly put everything into perspective.

Hey everyone. After a long month of thinking I'm finally releasing the new and improved retelling and rewritten version of Obsession. I felt like Grayson Harrington needed a deeper understanding than what my first draft of Obsession was like. This version will be much darker than the one before it. I hope you all enjoy me getting right back into writing. - Hunter
