The alarm clock awakened me in a panic, opening my eyes groggily to see the digital numbers displayed on the tiny screen

*5:30 am*

I slept a good full 8 hours yet I felt exhausted. Not to mention the not so great incident that happened just yesterday.

I sighed and rubbed the sleepiness off of my face before letting my legs hang on the edge of the bed and standing up to stretch. I got ready in no time, moving almost mechanically by now. All mornings were the same for me, you kinda get the hang of it after some time.

I tied my combat boots, making sure everything was in order.

"Bed; made. Face; washed. Clothes; on. What am I missing..."

I mumbled to myself as my eyes searched around the tiny bedroom that was my barrack.

"Shit, my vest! I always forget it, Goddamnit!"

I struggled to put on the tactical vest, doing and undoing the straps to adjust its positioning. Today, it didn't wanna cooperate. Either too high or too low, it just wouldn't sit properly.

A sigh of frustration left my lips, deciding to just leave it be and work with it the best I could. Looks weren't important when you had an angered veteran trying to gouge your eyes out

*knock. Knock. Knock*

My head whipped around towards the door. It was early as shit, who would already be searching for me? Unless..

"Katarina, open up."

Uh oh. Oh shit.. no! No no no no no no! He's here!

"Shit shit shit shit!.."

I whispered to myself looking around for a place to hide. This damned place was too tiny, there were no hiding spots. Would I manage to get under the bed? Too cramped.

*Knock. Knock. KNOCK*

"I can hear you moving around, ye twat. Open up."

Yeah right you can hear me. Your ears are all covered up half the time, I'm surprised you can even hear someone speak to you.

Now what? I'm stuck here. The windows are locked and the only way out is down the drain.

"Coming!.."

What?! NO! No I'm not coming! But I should since I don't even know what he wants. BUT WHAT IF HE KILLS ME!

My hand came in contact with the door knob and after a brief shaky breath, I opened it to see Ghost standing in my doorway

"You're late."

"Late? It's 5:45 am. What am I late for? The briefing is in an hour"

"Training. You're late."

"Oh. Uh. Yeah, about that.."

Make something up! Make something up, anything just don't tell him!?

"I have a.. doctor's appointment today! Yeah. So I can't train today."

He furrowed his eyebrows and I gulped down the knot that was beginning to creep up in my throat. What if he doesn't buy it? He's not this stupid.. is he?

Ghost let out a frustrated and disappointed sigh before nodding his head at me

"Alright then. May I ask the name of this doctor? I know them all by this point."

I froze, my palms sweaty and my eyes glancing around his background. It was a nervous reaction whenever I lied, diverting my attention to something different than the person in front of me.

"Uh.. doctor... Frank. Yeah doctor Frank. He's new, from a different unit"

"Doctor Frank. Good, don't be late for the briefing."

I nodded and he left me alone in the doorway of my barracks. FUCK?! I shouldn't have lied! Now he's gonna ask around for a doctor Frank! Maybe there is one! But maybe not... alright, let's not panic. He's not that persistent.

I stepped out of my barracks, closing the door behind me to meet up with Soap. I think anyone could tell I looked like I'd seen a ghost, probably because it's true. Huh, how convenient.

"Soap! Soap where the fuck are you!"

I shouted through whispers in the armory until a Mohawk head popped up from behind a shelf of rifles

"Oh Kat! You survived the night, how you holding up?"

"Barely. Ghost came looking for me just now"

"What did he want?"

"He said I was late for training and I had to make up an excuse! I couldn't just tell him I was meeting up with you to plan on disappearing out of his sight for a week!"

"You lied? To him? Did he buy it?"

"I think? I don't know! He's not stupid, and I'm not the best liar in town either."

"What did you tell him? You were going shopping or something?"

"I told him I had a doctors appointment"

"Sounds convincing enough- do you really?"

"What! No! It's a lie but he asked what doctor I was having the appointment with and I.. told him doctor Frank"

Soap burst out laughing at my last sentence. Was it such an obvious lie? He just said it was convincing!

"You mean doctor Frank Gosling? That old lad? He barely even walks, Kat!"

I put my hands in the air, disbelief written all over my face. Now I HAD to meet this man so it wouldn't rise suspicion

"How was I supposed to know! I just said whatever name came to mind!"

He kept laughing, barely holding onto the gun he was cleaning

"Oh Kat, I don't know how you're gonna get out of this one"
