Snow fell as I looked into the thin broth of the stew. Erina was sitting with me, eating her own bowl of stew. The healer had given me another healing vial yesterday morning relieving me of the splint, but Lyndon was still being given the smaller doses to make sure the ribs were setting correctly, so Erina had been doing scouting missions in the heavens with me while Kormac took the harder shift of checking on Lyndon when he and Tyreal weren't planning our next move. Erina looked up from her bowl, tilting her head at my disinterested expression, "Are you angry at the stew? While it is watery today I wouldn't find it to be a reason to be angry at," she said with a smile, "No. I'm just thinking of our next move," I said with a dismissive tone but she still looked at me, she seemed to ponder a thought for a moment, "He'll be fully healed soon and you know that, so you shouldn't worry to much," she continued to eat, "It doesn't matter who is injured I'd worry about about anyone in his condition," I answered with, she gave me a teasing look of some kind I couldn't quite understand, "I know that, you're a very caring person under your tough exterior," she finished her stew, stood up, and grasped my shoulder, "Because you have a good heart." she walked away as I skimmed the last of the stew while lost in thought.
The demon's skull erupted in a distasteful crack and squelch as I stomped into it.
The insides were sticky. Clinging to the bottom of the metal boots in an annoying manner as I walked unevenly. We were cleaning out a corrupted hall somewhere in the Heavens. Everything looked so similar you could easily get turned around, especially with the darkened rooms from the demonic intrusion, it did not help in the slightest. Erina inspected some of the items the demons had dropped, most of the weaker items power died once their wearer died so much of it was junk.
But some could have use, "What's that?" I looked at the trinkets she picked up from one of her, used to be opponents, a ring and amulet. "The power from these ones is incredible! Look at the magic that comes off this!" She raised the amulet to me, a pitiful thing in terms of looks but no one could deny the power coming from it. "Can you tell what power it offers?" I looked at it with a curious interest as she examined it further, "Hm, it holds great magical strength...but it wouldn't be of much use to you I'm afraid," I nodded in acknowledgement, "It's destined for you then, though I would bring it in for a more...tasteful look, what of the other thing?" She offered her palm to me. It was a little ring, it seemed to thum in her hand. I picked it up and gave it a closer look, it was a silver band inlaid with a section of gold and two jewels embedded in it. After looking at it further I realized it wouldn't be of use to me either compared to the others I wore, "This will work better on someone else too," Erina seemed to already have figured that out and nodded in agreement as she was busy trying to rub off the blood from her new amulet, "Yes, most likely that is the best decision." she responded with. I pocketed the ring for later.
As we exited the portal Kormac and Lyndon approached us, "Perfect timing!" Kormac said while giving us a welcoming pat on the shoulders, "Our scoundrel is all better now! Which means I don't have to listen to his bothersome demands," Kormac had a annoyed pout on his face at the fact he had to keep Lyndon company in the makeshift tent, because if no one did he would've most likely started to walk around the Keep out of boredom which would of just messed with his rib placement. Lyndon didn't so much as look bothered by Kormac's words but just gave him a smile, "Admit it you love my company!" Kormac simply gave him an annoyed expression. "He's like a stray dog that you decide to feed. Won't stop following you around once you give them attention!" Kormac said as he rubbed his temples, Lyndon gave him a forceful side hug in appreciation while grinning from ear to ear, "Oh stop complaining you! I'm all better now so you won't have to worry about me any longer! I won't be your problem anymore!" He stated joyously, "Except when we sit to eat, or go on patrol, or try to sleep to your constant ramblings.." Kormac seemed to age just by thinking about it. Erina laughed at that and Lyndon joined despite the comment meant to be a bash towards his character. And I felt relief at the brief moment of us relaxing.
