As the next year passed, Sarah and Bucky wrote back and forth. Sarah was forced to be one of Steve's wardrobe people during his little shows.
Steve took his frustrations about not fighting out on Sarah. Finally crossing the line that their father never crossed with her by physically hurting her.
October 1944
Steve went to Peggy. "Send Sarah back to New York."
"You're not gonna tell her that Bucky was captured?" Peggy asked curiously.
"No." He replied. "She doesn't belong here."
Peggy nodded and went to walk away.
"And Carter, make sure she knows the deal while gone." Steve looked at the woman who was putty in his hands. "Also make sure she doesn't want for anything. Maybe if she realizes how nice it can be if she cooperates, she'll do as she is told."
Peggy nodded and went towards the private tent that belonged to Steve. As she entered, she noticed Sarah using a mirror to wipe blood from her face.
Peggy sighed and went over, taking the cloth.
"Why do you do this?"
"Not like I want to be beat up, Carter. I prefer being home in New York not being pulled around to be Steve's little wardrobe monkey."
"Well, Steve is sending you back home to New York, and Howard has offered you a position as his secretary at his New York office." Peggy replied, cleaning up the woman in front of her. "Also, I've been told to make sure you get everything you want."
Sarah bit her tongue on what she really wanted just because she was happy to finally be going home.
Peggy started to cover up the bruises on Sarah's face with makeup. "Not a word or.."
"I already know." Sarah muttered.
Peggy nodded in satisfaction. "I'm going to go let Howard know what's going on."
Sarah nodded and got up to pack the few items she had in her possession. "Carter, is Bucky going to be informed of my change of address?"
"I'll make sure of it." Peggy replied. Even though she obeyed Steve and loved him, she wasn't going to keep word about where Sarah was from her husband.
"Thank you." Sarah watched her leave. "I hope you open your eyes about Steve." She muttered.
