                 Brooklyn, New York
                      January 1945

It was a cold afternoon in New York. A blonde female walked towards her little brownstone apartment bundled up, hoping to beat the incoming snowstorm. She dug through her purse for her keys but stopped seeing a man in uniform on her steps.

The soldier looked over hearing her footsteps. "Evening ma'am do you know where I can find Mrs. Sarah Barnes?"

"I'm her. Who are you?" Sarah asked cautiously. She had been feeling paranoid lately due to letters she had received from her husband.

"Ma'am I'm Sergeant Howlett I work with your brother and husband."

"I know of you. Why are you here?"

Logan sighed softly and rubbed his neck. He still didn't know why Steve sent him to do this. "Can we speak inside?"

Sarah nodded, going up the stairs. As she tried to shuffle her bags to unlock the door, Logan reached a hand out.

"Here, I can take those groceries."

Sarah smiled nervously. "Thank you."

She unlocked the door and led him inside. As she took off her outerwear, Logan looked around the little entrance hall. Sarah took the groceries back and headed towards the little kitchen.

"Would you like coffee?"

"You have actual coffee? How did you manage that?" Logan asked curiously.

Sarah shrugged slightly. "Having Captain America as your brother kind of gets you access to things." She started up the pot.

Logan nodded in understanding and walked around the living room seeing all the pictures. He stopped seeing a picture of pre serum Steve with Sarah and Bucky. "He definitely doesn't look like that anymore."

Sarah laughed softly. "No, he does not." She set out two cups of coffee as well as sugar and milk.

Logan sat down and took a breath.

"Why are you here, Sergeant?" Sarah asked as she stirred her coffee. "Is Bucky captured again?"

Logan shook his head. "There was a mission. It didn't go as planned."

Sarah's eyes filled with tears. "He's dead, isn't he?"

Logan nodded slightly. "It's believed so." He reached into his jacket and handed Sarah a bundled journal.

"I'm sorry for your loss, Mrs. Barnes..Bucky was a good man."
