Late February 1945
Sarah tried to ignore all the voices around her as she walked to her brownstone. She paused, seeing Logan at her doorstep. He sighed, looking up at her as she approached.
"I already know." Sarah whispered, trying not to break. "News articles came out quick."
Logan nodded and held out the folded flag. "I was with the team trying to find his remains, or I would have been here sooner."
Sarah took the flag with trembling hands and took a deep breath. She unlocked the door and motioned for Logan to come in.
He scooped up his duffle bag and followed her inside. Logan hated that he was delivering bad news to her again in such a short time.
Sarah made some coffee and then sat down. "Their benefits got delieverd." She whispered.
Logan nodded slightly. "I figured as much." The two sat in silence except for the ticking of the grandfather clock in the living room.
Sarah's eyes went to the duffle bag Logan carried. "You headed home?"
"Don't really have one. Was gonna head to Canada."
"You can stay here if you want.. I have the room."
Logan looked up at the young woman. He could sense the grief and loneliness that surrounded her.
"Thank you." Logan replied.
"You're welcome."
