"Can we just be friends, I'm not ready for a relationship right now." Derek sips his drink. "Of course, sorry I wasn't thinking." We sit across from each waiting for our food to get here. "At least we can be friends, right?" I nod. "Here is your food. Enjoy!" I taste the soup base first before eating some of my noodles. "I know you said you're not ready for another relationship but, is there someone else? If there is that's fine, I can respect that." I blush. "There is but it's complicated." He nods. "Why is it complicated? You don't have to explain if you don't want to." I think of how I can tell him without telling him that it's a teacher. "He saved me from Jackson and we became close then when it was time for me to come back to school he became distant then I caught him with another girl. I guess he was only with me out of sympathy." He takes a sip of his drink. "Damn. Is he still trying to talk to you?" My phone buzzed a few times. I look at the messages and they're all from Shawn.

Shawn: I'm sorry.

Shawn: can we please talk?

Shawn: I can explain.

Shawn: why did you kiss Derek?

"Yea, he is."

After dinner Derek took me home. "Hey honey how was your day out with Derek? He's a handsome boy." I groan knowing where this is going. "Storm, kitchen, please?" I follow mom into the kitchen she looks behind me making sure we were out of reach of dad's hearing. "What happened? Are you and Shawn ok? I thought things were going well." I tell her what had happened her reaction was surprisingly calm. "Not making excuses for him because what he did was wrong. Maybe he's conflicted by the whole thing or using that as a cover up for your relationship. I don't know I'm just guessing. He's coming over to watch sports with your dad." I sigh. "I don't know." She pats my hand and gives me a soft empathetic smile. "Just talk to him and hear him out." I sit in my room writing in my journal when my door opens. I get up surprised to see who it is but, before I could he pulls me into him and attack my lips with his. He pulls away. "I'm sorry, I am so sorry. She told me she wanted to have a little meeting with me. I swear I didn't know her attention. When it happened is when you walked in on us. I'm sorry."his hands rest on my waist rubbing gentle circles. "Are we dating now?" He smiles. "Yea." I look at the ground then back at him. "You're not with me out of sympathy?" He scoffs. "Oh god no! I want you because of you. I love everything about you. We should get back downstairs before your dad suspects a thing." He tugs my hand but I don't budge. "I'm actually going to stay up here for a bit." He nods letting me go. He gently close the door behind him and I sigh. I'm not sure if I want to say it was a sigh of relief. It's more of like I can relax now I let all the anxiousness out. I continue to do some homework then go downstairs to help mom in the kitchen. Knowing her she wants to cook for the boys. "Hey mom, need help?" She shakes her head. "I got it, thanks though, why don't you give Shawn some company." She gives me a teasing look. I sit in the living room next to Shawn on the couch, his hand sneaks on the inside of my thigh rubbing small circles as he drinks his beer. Dad  hops off the couch and yells at the tv. "Oh come on you could have caught that!" Shawn finishes his beer and leans back on the couch. His arm stretches behind me and his hand dangles near my shoulders. I lean into him resting my head on his chest surprising him for a moment then he smiles kissing the top of my head. I scoot a little closer enjoying his body heat. "Damn." His voice vibrates in his chest when he speaks or laughs. "Hell yea! Come on cowboys!" Dad cheers. "I made sandwiches!" I hum feeling my eyes close. Shawn looks down at me as he grabs a sandwich. "You tired baby?" He whispers making sure my dad doesn't hear. "A little but I don't want to go to bed yet, I want to stay here in your arms. You're warm." He kiss the side of my head again. "I will take you to bed when the game is over." I try to stay awake but heavy eyelids beat me.

I wake up in bed in a sweat and panic. Mom and dad walk in  comforting me. "It's ok you're safe you are safe." I shake my head no. "I need a shower, I need a shower, I'm dirty! I'm dirty!" I breakdown in tears. "No, no, butterfly you are not dirty." Mom takes my hands rubbing them gently. "No, no!" I scream pulling away. "Call Shawn." Mom demands. "What? It's the middle of the night what can he do? Why him?" "Just do it, trust me, please? He knows how to calm her down better than us." Dad calls Shawn and surprisingly he was up. Shawn walks in and sits on my bed, he lifts my face up so I'm looking at him. "Look at me and breathe. You are safe, you are at home, no one can hurt you." I look into his soft brown eyes the tears falling down my face. He wipes the tears. "Ok?" I nod. "Good." He gets up but I grab his hand. "Stay?" I look at my parents for permission. "Sure butterfly whatever makes you sleep." My parents leave the room. Shawn locks the door and pulls his shirt and pants off. He slides in the queen size bed next to me and wraps his arms around me. "I won't let anything happen to you." Being in his arms makes me feel safe.
