It was Monday morning and Hot shot was soon going to start chemotherapy. Hot shot was very nervous about starting but he was ready for it. That morning the nurse took some blood from his central line. Then Hot shot was going to have to wait a bit for it to be ready.

"Why do I have to wait?" Hot shot asked.

"Because chemotherapy is made for a patient fresh at each session," the nurse told him. "It is the best way to do it," she told him.

"Oh," Hot shot said.

Then after a bit a nurse came in with a tray of bottles. "Okay Hot shot you need to take these medicines to help ease the side effects of chemotherapy," the nurse told him.

"Okay," Hot shot said. Hot shot took each medicine. It was nasty to say the least but it was going to help. "How often do I need chemotherapy?" he asked.

"You will get it three to five days every two weeks," the nurse told him. "During some of them you will be staying in the hospital." she told him. "Other times it will be just for that day and you can go home afterwards," she told him. "But which one it is depends on a lot of things," she explained.

"Okay," Hot shot said.

After a couple of hours the nurse came in with a syringe and a couple of bags of medicine. "Okay Hot shot I got your chemotherapy," the nurse said. "Are you ready?" she asked.

"I'm ready," Hot shot said.

"Very good," the nurse said. She washed her hand and got on some gloves. She grabbed the syringe and unclamped one of the lines on the Hickman line. Then slowly she pushed the medicine into the Hickman line. Then once the syringe was empty she clamped the line and disconnect the syringe. Then she washed her hands again and prepared the IV pole and pump with the bags. Then washed her hands again. After that she unclamped both of the lines on the Hickman and hooked them up to the IV. Then she started the pump.

The medicine began to slowly drip into the line and right into Hot shot. Now he was getting his chemotherapy. "There you go Hot shot you are all set up," the nurse said. "Now you can do what you like," she said.

"I can do what I want to do?" Hot shot asked.

"You sure can," the nurse said.

Then a bit a later Emily the child life specialist came into the room. "Hello Hot shot I am going to explain to you about hair loss," Emily said. "Your hair will fall out two to three weeks after starting treatment or it can happen sooner or later, it is different for everyone," she told him. "You might lose only a little hair, or your hair will thin out slowly, or you will lose all your hair really fast," she said. "It is different for everyone." she told him. "But your hair will grow back once treatment is over," she explained. "It might even be a different color or texture or both," she added.

"Does it hurt?" Hot shot asked.

"No it doesn't hurt," Emily told him. "it might feel a bit strange at first but you will get used to it," she explained. "Some kids like to wear wigs, others like bandanas, others like hats, and some like to be bald and proud," she said. "others may do a variety of things," she said. "I even have a couple of wigs, bandanas and hats for you to try," she said.

"Cool," Hot shot said. Hot shot began to try all of them on one by one. Hot shot wasn't too found of the wigs. He was okay with the bandanas. But what Hot shot really loved were the beanies they were his favorite thing. "I love the beanie hats," Hot shot said.

"I am glad you like them," Emily said.

"Well there are some hats to chose from online," Quickshadow said. "Let's pick one out," she said.

Hot shot looked at all the hats and he chose a yellow one. "The yellow hat is very special because the color yellow represents the fight against sarcoma cancers," Quickshadow told him.

"Cool," Hot shot said.

Hot shot was doing other things as his chemotherapy went in. He was having a good time watching movies and playing games. After a few hours the machine went bleep. It meant chemotherapy was done for today.

"Okay Hot shot you are going to get more chemotherapy tomorrow," the nurse said.

"Okay," Hot shot said. Hot shot was ready for it too. Hot shot did feel rather tired after chemotherapy. But that was totally normal. Hot shot was soon resting from it.

The next day was the very same process. A nurse took blood. Then a bit after that he got the medicine to help with the side effects. Then after few hours the nurse came in with the chemotherapy. A nurse did the same thing she did yesterday while giving him the chemotherapy. Now the drip was going and Hot shot could do what he wanted.

Today he got a surprise his father has come for his shift with him. "I got to go now Hot shot," Quickshadow said. "But I will be right back, I promise," she told him. "It is going to be okay," she assured him.

"I love you mummy," Hot shot said.

"I love you too Hot shot," Quickshadow said.

Heatwave brought Hot shot a few presents. "These from Blades, Boulder and Chase," Heatwave told him.

"Wow," Hot shot said.

"They thought you could use some cheering up," Heatwave said.

"It would have been nice to see them," Hot shot said.

"I know they wished they could see you too, but right now the hospitals have tight rules about visitors now," Heatwave said. "Things have changed,' he said.

"I know," Hot shot said.

"How are you feeling?" Heatwave asked him.

"I am feeling okay," Hot shot said.

Hot shot was able to spend time with his father. Hot shot was very happy about this. Soon the machine bleeped. Then the nurse came in and disconnect the IV and clamped the line. It was all taken care of.

Hot shot was able to rest now. The process repeated itself once again the next day. Hot shot was very tired after each chemotherapy session.

That night Hot shot felt very nauseous. He was very sick to his stomach. Hot shot ran into the bathroom and proceed to be sick. Heatwave saw this and began to rub his back. "It's okay, daddy's here," Heatwave told him.

Hot shot vomited for a while. He wasn't happy about this. The nurse saw this and gave him some medicine to help ease the nausea.

The next day Hot shot vomited after each meal. He was very sick. He was not happy about this. Hot shot wasn't fond of the idea of eating right now. Because it was making him sick.

Dr. Walters noticed this and decided to use a feeding tube called an NG tube to help. This way Hot shot can get nutrition without getting sick. Hot shot thought that was okay. Hot shot wasn't too fond of the process of getting a feeding tube. It made him cough. But soon it was in and checked to make sure it was in the right place, which it was.

Then the tube feed started. Hot shot needed a continuous feed to help him. It was because of how nauseous he has been. Hot shot was going to be able to sleep with the tube and during a feed. Hot shot was okay with that.

In fact he was quickly getting used to the tube.

Hot shot soon saw his friends had tubes too. He was going to keep fighting to get better.
