"Meung, how come you're not tutoring nong Becky? Not that I don't appreciate your company." Nam lay spread out on Freen's bed, the open textbook in front of her completely ignored. Freen sat at her desk, hunched over her laptop with an unfinished essay on the screen.

"She's working, phi." Freen answered, a pencil clenched between her teeth. "I'm seeing her tomorrow."

"How are things going with you two?" Nam asked, closing her book she abandoned all pretence of studying.

"Fine... She's not as bad at her subjects as I expected. She takes a lot of AP classes."

"That's not what I was asking about." Nam sat up and spun Freen's computer chair around so she was facing her. "How are things between you two? You seemed pretty cosy at the party. You know, when she spent the night."

She bit back a grin as Freen rolled her eyes at her. She tried turning around again, but Nam wouldn't have it. She kept her hand on Freen's chair. "Come on, meung. Spill the tea na!"

"There's no tea, phi!" Laughed Freen, doing a terrible job of keeping a straight face as Nam stared her down.

"There is totally tea!"

"Cai, cai." Freen relented. "We made out the other night at the party when she stayed over... I like her, okay?"

Nam's eyes lit up at the prospect of gossip.

"You like her? Like, like her? Wanna go down on her like her? Wanna see her naked like her?" She teased in a sing song voice. Freen grabbed hold of the cushion she was leaning on and threw it at her.

"Shut up, P'Nam!" Freen's cheeks were burning. "Cai, I like her, but I'm not going to be another notch on Becky Armstrong's bed post! I'm not ready for a relationship and she doesn't do them, so it's not going to go anywhere."

"It's weird. For being such a player, I haven't been able to find anyone she's slept with. There aren't exactly a ton of queer girls in Bangkok High, out or otherwise."

Freen shrugged. She didn't want to think about the girls Becky might have slept with. "She likes older girls. Maybe she's only been with college girls?"

"Hmm, I need to do some digging."

"No, you don't." Freen snapped, her expression serious. "Because nothing is going to happen."

"Sure, meung..." Nam twisted her face into a smirk.

Freen reached for the cushion to throw it at her again, but her uncle walking in stopped her in her tracks. She tucked the pillow behind her, trying to appear nonchalant about it. "Hey, uncle Nadech."

"Freenky. Looknam. Can I get you two anything? Something to drink? Snacks?" Nadech had a fierce reputation as the principle of Bangkok High, but when it came to family he was as soft as a puppy.

As Freen's best friend of more than ten years, Nam counted as extended family. They weren't as close as they once were, mostly thanks to Seng and his jealousy of Nam. But but they'd shared a lot over the years and their bond was slowly healing.

Nam had seen through Seng's attempt to isolate her from her friends, even if Freen hadn't. She'd welcomed her best friend back with open arms when she finally came to her senses and dumped Seng's sorry ass.

"We're good, thanks ka." Freen answered while Nam just nodded, surreptitiously opening her text book.

"Is Rebecca not joining you?" Nadech asked, his tone light and casual. "It would be nice to meet her properly, in a more informal setting. Perhaps dinner?"
