"Mama, have you seen my shorts? I can't find them anywhere!" Becky hollered as she came thundering down the stairs. She skidded to a stop in the hallway as she caught sight of Freen standing at her front door. Becky was painfully aware she was only half dressed. "P'Freen, hey! You're early.""No. I'm not." The older girl smirked as Becky tugged her jersey down over her thighs.
"Becky, baby, maybe you should go put some pants on?" Ann suggested, closing the door behind Freen.
"I, uh... I can't find my shorts, Ma."
"They're in your closet! Every time, Becky..." Ann shook her head with a sigh and brushed past her daughter to go look, leaving the two teens standing awkwardly in the hallway.
"So, you all set for the game, nong?" Freen asked, making small talk.
"Uh ka, pretty much." Said Becky. "Minus my shorts. Are you sure you're not early?"
"Pretty sure. It's five after ten."
"Becky, catch!" Ann appeared at the top of the stairs and tossed Becky's lacrosse shorts down to her. She fumbled to catch them, the silk shorts slipping through her fingers and landing on the floor.
"Smooth, nong." Freen laughed as Becky scooped them up from the floor and yanked them on. "Remind me, does your place on the team involve a lot of catching?"
"I gotta go finish getting dressed." Becky ducked the question as she turned and fled up the stairs, crossing her Ma on the way. Ann shook her head at her.
"That girl... How are you, Freen? Are you coming over with the girls for Halloween tonight?"
"I'm good thanks, and ka, I am. Becky won't let me hear the end of it if I don't."
"She loves Halloween. Always has. She might be scared of horror stuff but she loves Halloween. " Ann mused. Her interrogation of the other girl ended as Becky ran back down the stairs, her lacrosse stick in hand and her kit bag slung over her shoulder.
"Okay, let's get going. Irin's waiting on us-"
"Wait a minute, young lady. You haven't even had breakfast! You can't play on an empty stomach."
"Mama, we're gonna be late as it is!"
"Don't worry na, Khun Ann. I'll make sure she eats something. We'll swing by a drive-thru on the way." Freen said in a bid to appease the older woman.
Ann gave her shoulder a squeeze with a grateful smile. "Thank you for looking after her, dear. Someone has to."
"Mama!" Becky whined. "I don't need looking after! Wait... where are my shoes?!"

They were only a few minutes late picking up Irin. She tossed her kit bag and stick in the trunk along with Becky's and climbed into the back of Freen's Jeep with a smile stretched all the way across her face.
"Hey girls! First game of the season, Becbec!" Irin sat forward, her hands finding her friend's shoulders as she jumped around like an over stimulated five-year-old.
"Becbec?" Freen broke out in laughter at the nickname while Becky sunk in her seat with a scowl.
"I hate you both so much." She muttered.
"No Becks, you don't! You-love-me!" Irin sung in an off key voice while reaching around to pinch Becky's cheek. Becky swatted her hand away, her scowl slipping. Irin's good mood was infectious and Becky was already pumped for the game.
