Sunday morning Becky and Freen dressed and ready for the afternoon lacrosse game. Becky couldn't play, but she still wore her jersey to support the team. They said goodbye to Becky's parents as Irin pulled up outside in her Land Rover. The couple climbed in the back, with Irin and Engfa up front. They were both dressed for the game, with their kitbags and sticks in the trunk. Irin was practically vibrating with excitement, but it had little to do with the upcoming game.
"Jesus, Bunso. You're on time twice in a month!" Said Engfa, something close to awe in her voice as she twisted in her seat to face the other girl. "Freen is a wonderful influence on you... Don't fuck it up."
"Gee, thanks P'Fa." Becky rolled her eyes at her while Freen attempted to stifle a laugh behind her hand.
"Don't mention it. And here's your sling." Engfa tossed Becky's sling into the back. "You left it Friday night when you ran off to play the hero."
"Thanks na. Khun Ma's been going crazy at me for not wearing it." Becky pulled the sling on with help from Freen.
"So, babyface, what the hell were you thinking when you agreed to pretend to be dating Sarocha to get her ex off her back?" Engfa asked out of nowhere. In the back, Becky cringed. "Seriously nong, how dumb do you have to be to fake date the girl you're crushing on?"
"Did you have to tell her, Irin?" Becky groaned into her hands as she covered her face. There was no way Engfa was ever going to let her live this down. She'd likely make it part of her eulogy at Becky's funeral. "You suck. I'm never telling you anything again!" She huffed, crossing her arm over her sling in an attempt at mimicking crossing her arms.
"I'm sorry na! But I couldn't hold it in! I was so excited when you said you and P'Freen were dating for real... plus, P'Fa heard me screaming when you told me!" Said Irin , keeping one hand and half an eye on the road as she turned to beg for Becky's forgiveness. Freen watched Engfa reach across and take the wheel, as if this was an everday occurance.
"You told Irin we're dating? Was that before or after you actually asked me out?" Freen teased, taking pleasure in the way Becky's cheeks coloured and she dipped her head with a sheepish smile.
Upfront, Engfa cracked up laughing, slapping her thigh with her palm. "So much for playing it cool, Bunso!"
"Too late for that." Freen grinned, leaning over to press a kiss to her girlfriend's cheek. "I already know you're a total dork... but you're my dork."
"Oh god, I'm going to barf." Engfa rolled her eyes, while Irin made cooing noises from the driver's seat and twisted round to face them again.
"You guys are so cute! I'm glad you're dating for real now!"
"Me too, gummybear." Said Becky.
"Me too na." Freen squeezed her good hand with a wink and Becky felt the same unexplainable fluttering in her stomach that she had the first time she ever set eyes on the other girl.
They arrived at the school a good half an hour before the match was due to start. Most of the team were already in the gymnasium, dressed and warming up on the side of the court.
Yaya, back from her vacation with Nadech, waved Freen over from the home team bench. Freen gave Becky a peck on the cheek before walking over to greet her.
"You lucked out there, babyface. You're punching way above your weight!" Engfa slapped her on the back with a grin.
"Don't listen to her, Becks." Said Irin. "You guys are great together. See you after the game?"
"I'll be rooting for you." Becky watched her best friends walk off to go put their pads on in the locker room.
Once they were out of sight, and Freen was occupied with Yaya, Becky turned and made her way over to where the rest of the team were warming up, including Seng.
